You Wed Your Past I Wed My Future novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Tyler figured that with how much Stephanie loved him, she wouldn’t fall for Adrian, even if she spent time alone with him.

When Adrian carried Stephanie back to his hospital room, Evan and the rest of Adrian’s subordinates froze at the sight.

“What happened, Mr. Hawke? Weren’t you just going out to bring Ms. Ford in? Why is…”

Evan, the man who’d gone to the restaurant yesterday, was one of Adrian’s most trusted subordinates. It’d actually been his own idea to call Stephanie and invite her to the hospital.

He had a feeling that she was special to Adrian, so he took the liberty of calling her.

After finding out about it, Adrian didn’t berate him, though he did shoot Evan an icy look before heading off to receive Stephanie at the hospital entrance.

Evan didn’t expect Adrian to come back with Stephanie in his arms. And it seemed like there was something wrong with her.

Adrian set Stephanie down on the edge of the bed and settled her in before saying to Evan with a frown, “Get a doctor here.”

“Got it.”

Evan pressed the call button on the side, but deciding that it wasn’t enough, he went off to

look for a doctor himself.

The rest of Adrian’s subordinates had wisely stayed outside the hospital room, which meant that Adrian and Stephanie were now alone inside

“Look at me, Stephanie,” Adrian said as he crouched down and looked into her eyes. “It’s me, Adrian Hawke. Everything’s fine now.”

Stephanie’s unfocused eyes fell on him. “Adrian..”

“It’s me.”

Adrian patted her shoulder gently, saying, “You’re safe now. Don’t be scared. I’m here with you.”

Stephanie closed her eyes. Two drops of tears rolled down her face, which was as pale as a sheet. She was finally regaining some clarity.

When she opened her eyes again, her gaze was clear.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Hawke. I was a little out of it. Thank you for saving me just now. I owe you yet another favor,” Stephanie said.

She tried to stand, but Adrian pressed her shoulder down, signaling for her to remain seated.

“You should get some rest,” he said. “I’m sure you’re badly shaken over what happened just now.”

Stephanie smiled bitterly. It had indeed been a frightening ordeal, but she wouldn’t have frozen up like that if not for the shadow of the accident from two years ago lingering over her.

She glanced at her right leg.

Adrian followed suit, his gaze darkening ever so slightly.

“The doctor’s here, Mr. Hawke,” Evan came in and said.

Even though Stephanie said she was fine, Adrian insisted on letting the doctor check on her.

Unsurprisingly, the doctor confirmed that she hadn’t suffered any physical injuries, not even a scratch. However, he did say that she seemed to be a little emotionally affected, so it was best if someone could look after her and keep her company.

“Thank you, doctor. I understand,” Adrian said.

Evan’s expression remained neutral, but he was filled with wonder on the inside. It was his first time seeing Adrian being so attentive to a woman. He knew he was right about Stephanie being special to Adrian.

Last night, in his delirium, Adrian had even called out Stephanie’s name.

When the doctor left the room, Evan thoughtfully slipped out as well.

“I’m fine, really, Mr. Hawke,” Stephanie said with a helpless laugh. “Meanwhile, what about you? Is everything okay with you?”

As soon as she asked that question, she recalled the way Adrian had hugged her tightly last night. Her brow twitched, and a sense of awkwardness washed over her.

She inwardly told herself that everything was fine. He’d been drugged last night. His behavior had been due to extenuating circumstances. She didn’t need to overthink it.

“I’m fine,” Adrian replied.

Considering how alive and full of energy he looked, it did seem like he’d made a full recovery.

Stephanie nodded. She thought that would be the end of this particular topic, but Adrian began saying, “About last night…”
