Nestor was left completely speechless by Waldo’s blunt attitude.
Trying to smooth things over, he said, “Waldo, why don’t we have dinner tonight and talk about it?”
“Nestor, I’m busy. There’s nothing to discuss. My only condition is that Lawrence leaves The Blair Group and never gets hired back.” With that, Waldo hung up.
Nestor’s chest tightened. That was it, a clear ultimatum.
He let out a heavy sigh, thinking about how well Lawrence had just performed. The guy hadn’t flinched in front of the higher-ups and seemed like someone with real potential.
Was he really supposed to just let him go? Send him back to being a junior engineer?
But then there was his heart problem, acting up more and more lately. If he didn’t have someone he trusted inside the company, he wouldn’t be able to relax.
His two daughters were doing great in the tech industry, but neither of them was really cut out for running a company.
Nestor was stuck, not sure what to do, when his phone suddenly rang and made him jump.
Annoyed, he grabbed the receiver. “What is it?”
The person on the other end sounded startled by his tone and quickly explained, “Nestor, Malvin from Nexus Dynamics’ business department just called. He said there’s an important partnership he wants to discuss with you directly.”
Nestor blinked, thinking he must have misheard. “What did you say? Nexus Dynamics?”
He’d been eyeing a contract from the country’s top tech giant for years, but he’d never gotten close. And now, out of nowhere, they wanted to talk business with The Blair Group?
“Yes, Nestor, it’s really Nexus Dynamics,” the business manager replied, clearly excited.
