Shirley sounded completely fed up on the other end. “Can you believe this? She’s actually saying Resonance AI belongs to her, and now she’s suing me for stealing her idea. Plagiarism, intellectual property, all that. Mom, isn’t that the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard?”
Alice’s mind went straight to Resonance AI. That was Shirley’s pride and joy, the one project the James Group cared about more than anything. And now Catherine was trying to claim it for herself?
“That woman just can’t stand to see you doing well,” Alice said, her voice sharp. “She’s married into a rich family now and thinks she can stomp on you. But you’ve got Waldo backing you up, so what’s there to be afraid of? We’ll take her to court, and we won’t stop until she’s ruined.”
Shirley let out a cold laugh. “If she wants to go down this road, I’m happy to help her. I’ve already got the legal team working on a countersuit. It won’t be long before I drag her into court instead.”
Alice laughed, the sound light with relief. “I knew you’d handle it. Alright, just focus on the lawsuit and let me know if you need anything.”
Right after she hung up, her phone lit up with another call. Garnett.
Alice felt a little thrill run through her. She wasn’t even fifty yet, still had her looks, and men noticed. Garnett might not have been good for much, but he knew exactly how to make her happy in bed.
Nestor was off in Harrisburg for treatment and didn’t need her there. For once, her time was her own.
She picked up. “Hey, what’s up?”
“I miss you,” Garnett said softly. “Can you come over tonight?”
Alice lowered her voice, a little smile curling on her lips. “Nestor’s in Harrisburg for who knows how long. I’ll stay at your place tonight.”
“Really?” Garnett sounded thrilled, almost giddy. “So I get to hold you all night?”
“Who said you get to hold me?” Alice shot back, teasing. Still, she was grinning to herself. Right now, nobody was watching her.
