After the Fall A Leap into a Stranger's Arms novel Chapter 67

"Okay, Mom."

As soon as Lawrence’s car pulled away, a sleek black sedan rolled up. A bodyguard stepped out and opened the door for Adelina. There was a badge hanging from his chest, the kind reserved for high-level officials.

Adelina slid into the back seat. The driver glanced at her in the mirror and asked, “Back to the compound, ma’am?”

She adjusted her jacket, a satisfied smile on her lips. “Yes, let’s go home.”

Catherine had really made a great impression. Just three days ago, Lawrence had announced out of nowhere that he was married. Adelina had worried he was just desperate to shut down her nagging and had found someone at random.

But now, it was clear. Lawrence had actually picked out the perfect daughter-in-law.

The car glided through the city and into a peaceful, tree-lined compound with tight security, home to some of the country’s most important people.

Meanwhile, on her way back to the old villa, Catherine couldn’t stop smiling. Having Adelina’s approval felt like the best gift she could have gotten tonight.

Once she was home, Catherine carefully tucked away the jade bracelet, then sat down to prep her notes for tomorrow’s summit.

In the guest room, Lawrence was unbuttoning his shirt, about to hop in the shower, when his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, then answered, “Hello?”

“Lawrence, someone was tailing your car tonight.”

“Did you figure out who?”

“A private detective. Waldo sent him. Looks like they’re trying to dig up some dirt.”

Lawrence’s eyes narrowed. “Just keep an eye on them.”

“Got it,” came the reply.

The woman turned and smiled warmly. “You must be Catherine. I’m Susan, Adelina’s housekeeper. I’ll be helping out around here from now on.”

Catherine was caught off guard for a second, but with her and Lawrence both working such long hours, it really was a relief to have someone lend a hand.

“Thank you, Susan. I really appreciate it,” Catherine said, sincere and polite.

“Of course, of course,” Susan beamed, giving Catherine an approving once-over. In her mind, she was already thinking that Adelina had been right about this girl. Lawrence had good taste; Catherine just radiated good luck.

Right then, Lawrence came down the stairs, buttoning his cuffs. He wore a dress shirt and tailored slacks, every inch the definition of confidence.

Catherine couldn’t help it. For a second, she just stared, completely distracted by how good he looked. The urge to tease him bubbled up, but with Susan watching, she managed to keep her cool.

As soon as she got into the car with Lawrence, though, Catherine leaned over, tilted her head, and grinned. “You look way too sharp today. Are you planning to break every heart at the summit?”
