Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 10

Bruce gave a soft smile. “Yeah, I believe you. Just don’t let them get too comfortable. If you ever need backup, tell me right away.”

He stood up and the two of them headed for the door.

Out of nowhere, Sonja’s ankle rolled, and she stumbled. She nearly went down, but Bruce caught her before she could fall.

His voice was tight with worry. “Are you okay?”

Sonja shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Bruce looked at her ankle and frowned. “It’s already swollen. That’s not fine. I’ve got some ointment in my office.”

Before Sonja could protest, he scooped her up and rushed her straight to his office.

The meeting had just let out, and plenty of people were still milling around the top floor.

“Wait, was that Mr. Lamont carrying Dr. Campbell?”

“Oh my god, is Sonja... Mr. Lamont’s girlfriend?”

“I swear, I think she is! Mr. Lamont is always so cold. I’ve never seen him look so anxious about anyone. The way he looked at Dr. Campbell just now was just... They’re such a good couple. The icy CEO and the gorgeous, brilliant VP. I ship them so hard!”

Lottie stopped in her tracks.

Bruce and Dr. Campbell? Together?

As she walked by, her coworkers pulled her into the gossip circle. “Lottie, don’t you think Mr. Lamont and Dr. Campbell are perfect for each other? Like, seriously perfect.”

Lottie glanced over toward the CEO’s office.

She saw Bruce, brows knitted, tearing through cabinets until he found the first-aid kit. His expression changed when he spotted the bottle of liniment, and he went straight to Sonja, kneeling to gently lift her foot. He slipped off her shoe, poured a little of the medicine into his palm, and started massaging her ankle with so much care.

Lottie just stared. She’d never seen Bruce like this before.

Were Bruce and Sonja really that good together?

She smiled and nodded. “Yeah. They actually are.”

The truth was, Rebecca was the one who’d put the kit together for him.

Back in the early days of his startup, he used to code for hours without a break and forget to eat, which wrecked his stomach. Rebecca had quietly brought him a first-aid kit and filled it with medicine for his stomach. Over time, she kept adding things—cold medicine, bandages, stuff for bruises, you name it.

She even restocked the kit every month.

Thinking about it, Bruce realized something.

Rebecca hadn’t reached out to him lately.

Aside from a phone call three days ago, they hadn’t talked or even exchanged a single text.

After Sonja left, Bruce picked up his phone.

He thought for a while, then finally sent Rebecca a message. “Did your mother finish the hospital admission process?”

He glanced at the calendar on his desk, trying to remember. If he had it right, she was supposed to be admitted around now, but he couldn’t remember the exact date.
