Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 15

Rebecca rushed into the office at one in the afternoon. After grabbing a quick drink of water, she straightened up her desk and rolled her chair and work bag into the R&D room.

Everyone in development looked up, caught off guard.

Was she actually serious? Not just talking big?

Greg stood up from his spot at the far end. Seeing Rebecca move her things over didn't really faze him. That was the easy part. The stuff she said last night, though, that was another story.

Teamwork. Collaboration.

He was curious to see what she thought she could actually do. Sales people loved to toss around fancy words, but in his experience, that was all they had. A lot of flash, not much substance.

“Greg, where should I sit?” Rebecca asked.

Greg pointed. “Sit across from me.”

That way, he could keep an eye on her.

Rebecca smiled and rolled her chair to the spot facing him. Once she’d settled in, she turned to him. “Greg, what’s holding R&D back right now? Which features are giving you trouble? I want to start with the tough stuff.”

Greg could barely keep from rolling his eyes. Bold move, coming right for the hardest problems. Did she really think she could handle what the top programmers and product managers—people with resumes from big-name companies and finance degrees from overseas—couldn’t solve? Please.

A notification popped up on the office chat.

Rebecca opened her laptop.

Greg’s voice came from across the desk, cold and flat. “Here’s the development roadmap. Take a look.”

And with that, he went back to what he was doing. Whether she understood it or not, that was her problem. He and his team weren’t about to waste time explaining things to her.

Greg pushed up his glasses, still staring at the screen, hardly able to believe it.

His teammate was just as shocked.

They sat there for a long moment, silent, not sure what to say.

Meanwhile, Rebecca got a message from her mom’s caregiver. They were out of a few everyday things at the hospital. She replied, “I’m just leaving work. I’ll pick everything up and bring it right over.”

With her mom on her mind, Rebecca didn’t notice Greg’s reaction at all. She checked the time, quickly packed up, said goodbye to the team, and headed out.

After she left, Greg dropped into his chair, stunned.

How could this be possible? She’d only worked a few years, never in R&D, and yet she seemed to know everything.
