Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 36

When the guy saw Bruce standing protectively in front of Sonja, he immediately assumed Bruce was her boyfriend. His attitude dialed down a notch. “Your girlfriend hit my car. I just picked it up today, brand new.”

Bruce followed his gaze and saw the back end of a BMW with a serious dent. Definitely a rear-end collision. He frowned, a little annoyed. Was that all? “Did you call the police? Once the traffic officer gets here and sorts it out, she’ll pay for any damages, no problem.”

The BMW owner stood there with his arms crossed, still trying to look tough. “I already called. The officer’s on the way.”

Sonja tugged gently at Bruce’s sleeve. He turned, lowering his voice so only she could hear. “Relax. The officer will figure out who’s at fault and then we can leave.”

“I’m really sorry, Bruce. I haven’t been back in Coralbridge for long and I’m still getting used to the roads.” She looked at him, her expression full of guilt.

“It’s fine,” Bruce reassured her.

He quickly pulled out his phone, called Kane, and sent him their location, asking him to get there as soon as possible.

Not long after, the traffic officer arrived. Since the situation was clear and no one was hurt, the whole process of assigning fault was over in no time.

Bruce noticed how shaken Sonja still looked and felt a pang in his chest. He turned to Kane. “Stay here and help with the rest, okay?”

Then Bruce took Sonja to his own car and drove away, leaving Kane standing there, totally speechless. He’d been dragged out here at night just to deal with Sonja’s fender bender? He really was just the go-to guy for everything.

In the car, Sonja kept apologizing. “I’m really sorry. It was such a small accident, but I ended up making you come all the way here.” She hesitated, then added, “I heard you left work early for something important. I hope I didn’t mess up your plans.”

Bruce knew Sonja was just being her usual considerate self. He smiled softly. “You didn’t interrupt anything. Sonja, you really don’t need to keep saying sorry. I’m happy to help.”

At a red light, the car slowed to a stop. Bruce turned toward her, catching her gaze.

Sonja’s cheeks went pink and she dropped her eyes. “You’re always so good to me. I just don’t know how I’ll ever repay you.”

After breakfast, Rebecca headed to the office. As she walked up to the building, she noticed a new Mercedes parked out front. It looked fresh off the lot, but she didn’t think much of it, probably just a client’s car.

She took the elevator up, settled into her office, and hadn’t even had a chance to get comfortable when Liam knocked on her door.

To Rebecca, Liam was basically Stephen’s right hand, so him showing up meant Stephen had something for her.

“Liam, come in. Have a seat,” Rebecca said, gesturing to a chair and getting up to pour him some water.

Liam waved her off. “No, Ms. Harper, that’s really not necessary. I’m just here to drop something off and then I’ll get out of your way.”

Rebecca paused, a little confused. “Drop something off?”
