Bruce could barely see straight, his anger boiling over. He threw another punch that landed squarely on Paul’s jaw. With a snarl, Bruce staggered forward and grabbed Paul by the collar, shaking him, then landed two more punches, hard and fast.

“Is Rebecca your secret girlfriend? Tell me. Is she?” Bruce’s voice was raw, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at his best friend.

Tonight was supposed to be his last night of freedom. Morris had organized a bachelor party, just for their closest crew. For Bruce, that really just meant Morris and Paul. When Paul said he’d be back from his business trip, Bruce was thrilled. He figured Paul came back for the party and, more importantly, for Bruce’s engagement in two days.

But after a quick hello at the start, Paul disappeared. The private room was thick with smoke and noise, and Bruce, bored out of his mind, slipped out for a smoke. That was when he saw Rebecca and her mom.

The second he spotted Rebecca, Bruce couldn’t look away. But then he noticed the man standing next to her. It took him a second to process what he was seeing, but when it hit, it hit hard. He saw Paul being extra nice to Samantha and trying way too hard with Rebecca. Suddenly, everything made sense. The girl Paul had been pining for, the one he could never win over, was Rebecca.

He treated Paul like a brother, a lifelong friend. And Paul wanted his girl.

Bruce’s hands tightened around Paul’s collar, his eyes practically burning holes through him. “When did it start? When did you start feeling that way about her? Don’t tell me it was while we were still together.”

Paul just smirked, lips twisted in contempt. “That’s three. We’re even now. So, who exactly do you think you are, grilling me like this?”

Bruce opened his mouth, but nothing came out. “I…”

Suddenly, Paul’s fist landed on Bruce’s face, snapping his head to the side. Bruce glared back, face throbbing.
