Aiden thought about arguing some more, but what was the point? Everyone in the company knew Bruce and Sonja were about to get engaged. Sonja was Bruce’s fiancée now. They were family. Why would Bruce ever listen to him?

He forced a bitter smile. “Alright. We’ll do things Sonja’s way.”

Sonja flipped her long, curly hair and looked down her nose at him. “Good, Aiden. Let’s put that little disagreement behind us. I’m not going to hold it against you. As for your team, when I said I’d fire them, I was just trying to scare them. I’m sure you understand the situation. Please, help smooth things over for me.”

She gave a sly smile at the camera, turning her attention to Bruce on the other side of the call.

“Bruce, the engagement’s the day after tomorrow. I’ll text you some details later. Help me make some decisions, okay?”

Her words were a warning for everyone in the room. She was about to become Bruce’s wife. Half the company would soon be in her hands. If anyone dared cross her, she could kick them out whenever she wanted.

Everyone got the hint. Heads bowed, no one said a word.

When the meeting cleared out and most people had left, Shawn walked up behind Aiden and patted him on the shoulder.

“A smart bird picks the right tree,” he said quietly.

Aiden looked up, startled. What did that mean? Was he reading too much into it? Wasn’t Shawn one of Sonja’s people?

While Aiden was still trying to figure it out, Shawn just smiled and strolled off toward the elevator.
