Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 47

Once they got in the car, Samantha looked around, curiosity written all over her face. “Did you buy a car?”

Rebecca’s hand paused on the steering wheel and she just mumbled a quiet yes, not ready to tell her mom about switching jobs.

They made it home around ten. As soon as they went upstairs, Rebecca settled her mom on the sofa and used the chance to tidy up a bit. When things were mostly in order, she turned to her mom. “Mom, I found a housekeeper. She’ll be here this afternoon. From now on…”

She trailed off, glancing back, only to find the sofa empty.

Samantha came out of the storage room looking serious.

“Rebecca, where are the engagement gifts Bruce brought over?”

Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat. Her mom noticed faster than she expected. She opened her mouth but nothing came out, her mind scrambling for an excuse that might actually work.

Before she could say anything, the front door opened. Lottie breezed in, arms full of shopping bags, her whole face lit up with a bright smile.

“Mom, I came to see you.”

Samantha’s mood changed in an instant. She grinned, reaching for the gifts.

“You took a day off just to come here? Why’d you buy so much stuff? It’s such a waste!”

Lottie tossed her hair and grinned. “Yeah, I asked for time off just for you. Plus, I got a promotion and a raise. My salary’s way better now.”

“A promotion? And a raise too? That’s wonderful!” Samantha’s smile grew even wider.

Lottie glanced at Rebecca, catching her look of surprise, which made her feel even more smug.

“That’s right,” she went on, “I’m working as an assistant to someone super impressive now. I really think I’m going to level up fast. And I got this chance all by myself, no help from anyone.”

Of course, she kept that thought to herself.

“Rebecca, now that Mom’s out of the hospital, are you going back to work soon?” Lottie raised an eyebrow at her, barely hiding her anticipation.

She could hardly wait to see Rebecca’s reaction when she went back to the office and saw Sonja being the star of the show. No way would she keep her cool.

And when she found out Bruce’s heart was never really with her…

Lottie couldn’t help but smirk a little.

“She’s still busy with the engagement stuff,” Samantha said, answering for Rebecca. “There’s no rush to go back right away.”

Her daughter had worked herself to the bone for the company, barely ever taking a real break, working through every holiday. Now that she finally had some time off, Samantha was honestly hoping she’d rest a while longer.
