Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 52

Paul fired back even faster than Bruce. [Shut up. You’re always calling her a simp, but what about you? Let me guess why you’re at Larkhaven College. I bet you’re there chasing after some cute freshman girl, aren’t you?]

The photo Morris sent made it obvious. In the background, a bunch of students were wearing baggy T-shirts with “Larkhaven College Basketball” printed on the front. There was no mystery about why Morris was on campus. He had the same type for years. College girls, always.

Morris was at a loss for words. He shot back with an angry emoji, trying to look tough. Paul didn’t miss a beat and fired off an emoji right back at him. In seconds, their group chat turned into a full-on emoji war.

A while later, Bruce finally checked his phone. It was Saturday and he was working from home. He finished up his emails and then noticed the group chat was exploding with new messages. He scrolled through them, one after another, until he reached the photo Morris had posted. Pinching the image to zoom in, Bruce’s fingers paused when he spotted a familiar silhouette.

And that familiar figure was with a man. The man had his arms wrapped around her from behind.

Rebecca, hugging some random guy?

Bruce shot up from his chair, heart pounding. No way. That couldn’t be her. Just like Paul, he noticed the students in the basketball jerseys. He let out a long breath. He must have been mistaken.

There was no way Rebecca would be on the Larkhaven College campus. Samantha had just gotten out of the hospital. Rebecca was so devoted to her mom, she’d never ditch her for a date.

Besides…

Bruce ran his fingers over the top two buttons of his shirt, popping them open so he could breathe again. Rebecca was loyal to him. She didn’t even look at other guys, no matter how good-looking they were. They were together for seven years, and Bruce had no doubt about her.

He typed in the chat, tagging Morris. “You need to get your eyes checked. My baby doesn’t look like that, and she definitely wouldn’t be at Larkhaven College.”

Morris was floored. “My baby? Dude, that’s so cheesy.”

Bruce ignored him and followed up. “You guys free tonight? I need some advice.”

“About what?” Morris replied.

“How to make up with a girl.”

Bruce’s frown deepened. “It’s that serious?”

Morris just threw his hands up, totally lost. “In my experience, unless you’ve got a really good reason, you can’t fix that.”

A second later, he added, “But you know, with Rebecca’s personality, I think you still have a shot. See you at the bar tonight.”

Bruce responded, “Alright.”

Paul just stared at his phone, not sure what to think. Bruce actually called off the engagement with Rebecca. Was it because of Sonja? The whole social circle was buzzing lately, saying the Campbell and Duncan families had called off their marriage alliance.

Between the two girls, Sonja might be more impressive on paper, but Rebecca was the only one who fit Bruce. He’s so cold, and only Rebecca could put up with him.

If Bruce really let Rebecca go… Paul couldn’t even figure out how he felt about it. Something about the whole thing just felt wrong.
