Word was that Bruce spoiled Sonja. He just couldn’t stand the thought of her handling clients by herself, so he was always by her side. Hhe probably picked up smoking during those endless business dinners.
See, men did know how to care. They just haven’t met the one person who makes them want to.
Rebecca didn’t kid herself. She knew Bruce wasn’t here for her. She kept her head down and walked right past him without a word.
Except Bruce reached out and caught her by the wrist.
“Mr. Lamont, what are you doing?” Rebecca’s words cut through the moment, cold and sharp.
Bruce’s expression was icy, his voice colder still. “Mr. Lamont? It’s only been a month since you left. Are we strangers now?”
Rebecca glared at him. “I thought you pretended that you didn’t know me first. Or am I imagining things?”
He got it then. She was mad because he’d ignored her at the forum earlier. If she was still mad, it meant she still cared, even if she wouldn’t admit it. That realization made something in Bruce relax. He let go of her wrist, his voice gentler now.
“How do you know Stephen?”
The question threw Rebecca for a second. She pressed her lips together and took a step back. “With the way things are between us now, I don’t see why I owe you any explanations.”
“Rebecca.” Bruce’s voice was firm. “Stephen isn’t someone you want to mess with. Guys like him never mean what they say. Don’t get involved with him.”
Rebecca could barely believe what she was hearing. Stephen was her boss, nothing more, nothing less. Where did Bruce get the idea she was “getting involved” with him? She rolled her eyes, completely done with this conversation.
Her gaze softened for a moment. “Bruce, we were together for seven years. You have no idea how much I used to wish you’d say those words to me. The sad thing is, back when we were together, you never did. You didn’t even say ‘I love you’ once. Now that it’s over, I finally hear it.”
She gave a short, bitter laugh. “But what does it matter now?”
“Bruce, what I wanted was love. Your love. Do you love me?”
Bruce just stood there, stunned.
Did he love Rebecca?

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
