The girl who spoke had delicate features, but the arrogance and haughtiness in her eyes ruined her pretty face. She tilted her chin up and cast a leisurely glance at Ariana, completely dismissing her presence.
Ariana narrowed her eyes but remained silent.
Earlier, the girl had noticed an assistant bringing coffee to this woman. The assistant’s eagerness suggested the woman held a high position—either someone from another corporation or a senior member of the Stone family. Yet, the girl felt no fear. Her status was unmatched, so she had no concern about offending anyone.
She took a careless sip of the coffee, but the moment it touched her tongue, her brow furrowed in displeasure. She spat the coffee back into the cup without swallowing and scowled. "What kind of coffee is this? It’s disgusting. Is this the best the Stone Group can offer?" Her tone dripped with scorn as a cold sneer flashed in her eyes.
Then, with a lazy flick of her wrist, she set the cup down on the coffee table beside Ariana. "Here, you can have it. I don’t want it anymore."
Ariana watched the girl’s audacious display, feeling a mix of disbelief and amusement. Her voice remained calm as she said, "Miss, this coffee was mine. Taking it without asking was already impolite, but spitting into it and then ‘returning’ it to someone? That’s beyond disrespectful."
As a mother of four, Ariana had long outgrown the urge to confront petty provocations. Though the girl’s behavior was shocking, Ariana merely frowned, refusing to be rattled. Inwardly, she thought, 'Lambert was right to insist on strict discipline for Carson. If he ever turned out like this girl, it would truly reflect a lack of upbringing.'
Fortunately, he was still young, and there was time to set him straight.
Ariana pressed her lips together, silently resolving that the next time Lambert scolded Carson with that icy demeanor, she wouldn’t intervene or soften her heart.
The girl seemed utterly unaccustomed to being spoken to in such a manner. Even though Ariana’s tone was calm and her words carried no sharp edge, the girl bristled with anger. Her face darkened instantly as she sneered, “What? Are you upset that I drank your coffee? Consider it an honor that I, a young lady of my standing, would even touch your drink.”
Ariana chuckled lightly. “Then what’s the logic behind spitting it back into the cup for me?”
As the girl’s temper flared, her bodyguard seemed to sense that Ariana was not someone to be trifled with. Hoping to avoid unnecessary trouble, he quickly intervened, “Miss, we’re at Stone Corporation. It’s best not to cause any trouble for the boss.”
The girl’s eyes widened in fury. With a sharp crack, she slapped the bodyguard who had tried to stop her, her gaze venomous. “Your mistress is being insulted, and you’re telling her to endure it?”
The bodyguard’s fists clenched briefly before relaxing. He bowed slightly and said, “My apologies, Miss.”
The other bodyguards remained expressionless, clearly accustomed to the girl’s outbursts.
Ariana watched with mild curiosity.
She found herself wondering which influential family this girl belonged to. In principle, the more established aristocratic families tended to impose stricter discipline on their heirs. While many assumed the wealthy relied on power to bully others, the opposite was often true—the richer the family, the greater the emphasis on etiquette and decorum for the next generation.
Accompanying him was the current president of Lohmann Corporation—the girl’s older brother—along with several assistants and secretaries, all of whom had just stepped out of a meeting.
The Lohmann Corporation's president, named Noah Lohmann, and the girl is named Caroline Lohmann.
Noah shot his sister a stern, disapproving look before stepping forward to apologize. “My apologies, President Stone. My younger sister has been spoiled rotten by our parents since childhood.” He then glanced cautiously at Ariana. “Is this… madam alright?” Though he didn’t recognize Ariana, the way Lambert shielded her suggested she was either his lover or his wife. Addressing her as “madam” seemed the safest bet.
As for Caroline, she was already fuming. Her eyes brimmed with angry tears as she glared venomously at Ariana. “Brother!” she cried out indignantly. “How can you just stand there while I’m being treated like this?”
Lohmann Corporation was a household name in the country. Headquartered in L City, its focus was primarily on internet-related industries, which had little overlap with Stone Corporation’s business ventures. As a result, the two families had minimal interaction, and Ariana wasn’t very familiar with them.
Lohmann Corporation stood as the largest internet industry giant domestically. Not only had it firmly established itself in the local market, but it had also been gradually expanding into markets in M Country and E Country, with ventures in several other nations as well. Strictly speaking, even Stone Corporation had to tread carefully around Lohmann Corporation’s influence. It was no exaggeration to call Lohmann Corporation the nation’s top leading enterprise.
This was exactly why Caroline acted so arrogantly. Even though she could tell from Ariana’s demeanor that the woman was no ordinary person, she still felt bold enough to provoke and insult her. Did anyone think she was foolish? Spoiled she might be, but Caroline wasn’t brainless—she could sense Ariana’s elevated status.
But so what? In her eyes, Stone Corporation was no match for Lohmann Corporation. Under that premise, even if this woman had some notable background, how high could it possibly be? Caroline believed Ariana should simply endure any humiliation dished out—just like all those other socialites and heirs in L City.
