In the CEO’s office of the Moore Group headquarters, Lambert sat with an air of calm indifference. Across from him was Bran, the CEO of Moore—and incidentally, Irene’s ex-husband. Initially, Lambert had not considered Moore Group for this partnership, well aware of the marital ties that once connected the Moore family to the former Harper family.
Even though the relationship between the Harper and Stone families had grown somewhat delicate due to Ariana’s involvement, Lambert had no intention of entangling himself in any affairs linked to the Harpers.
His original target for negotiation had been a different corporation altogether.
But then, an unexpected turn of events led him to cross paths with Bran. After a brief conversation, the two found themselves surprisingly aligned in their thinking—and so, here they were now.
"Sixty-forty. That’s my final offer," Bran said, narrowing his eyes as he studied Lambert. His expression was unreadable—neither friendly nor hostile, but tinged with a certain subtlety. Bran had long been aware of the moderately popular game gaining traction, and as it happened, Moore Group specialized in internet-based industries.
He had already been considering reaching out to the Lamari Group for discussions.
In fact, his recent trip had been precisely for that purpose. But then, the incident involving Irene erupted, blowing up into such a scandal that he had no choice but to temporarily shelve the plan. To his surprise, however, he ended up encountering Lambert again. Seizing the opportunity, Bran broached the subject, and the two quickly found common ground on the project itself. The only sticking point was the division of profits and shares. For what felt like an eternity, Lambert had been skillfully deflecting and negotiating, neither side willing to yield.
Bran was growing impatient. He knew that if this continued, it would lead nowhere.
Moreover…
He had his own reasons for being willing to compromise.
Noticing Bran’s eventual concession, a glint of triumph flashed in Lambert’s eyes, and a faint sense of satisfaction warmed his chest.
*Finally*, he thought, *I can wrap this up and return home sooner.*
A relaxed smile spread across his face as he extended his hand. "Pleasure doing business with you."
Bran let out a cold laugh, but still extended his hand to return the handshake. "Pleasure working together," he said.
Well, this outcome was still within Bran’s acceptable range. So he wasn’t truly that displeased. He had a hunch that this game could bring considerable profits to the Moore Group. A minor loss like this hardly fazed him.
Just as Bran was about to casually exchange a few more pleasantries, Lambert’s phone suddenly rang.
The sound immediately made Bran’s expression stiffen.
In the end, he shot Lambert a half-smiling, half-skeptical look, his face showing clear displeasure.
During discussions of this nature, it was customary to turn off one’s phone or other devices proactively. If such an interruption occurred mid-negotiation, it signaled disrespect toward the other party—much like an employee’s phone ringing during an important meeting.
Of course, if the person you were negotiating with wasn’t particularly influential or high-ranking, you could let your phone ring ten times over, and no one would dare say a word.
But Bran’s status?
Not only was it no lower than Lambert’s—the Moore Group far surpassed the Stone family in stature.
