Although Zoey's mother was a great beauty, Zoey had inherited very little of her mother's loveliness. Instead, she bore a stronger resemblance to her father.
Not that Zoey was unattractive—but the single eyelids she'd inherited from her father diminished her looks by at least thirty percent. Even after she'd undergone surgery to correct them, the double eyelids looked slightly unnatural, clearly not her own. Combined with the habitual arrogance etched in the curve of her brows and the corners of her eyes, it all lent her an unintentionally sharp, unkind air.
Ariana stared in surprise at Zoey, who stood before her with that faint, mocking smile. She truly hadn’t expected such a coincidence.
Ariana narrowed her eyes slightly, then lifted her lips into a light, polite smile. "It really has been a long time."
Zoey let out a soft, derisive laugh. Her gaze drifted to the three children standing beside Ariana, and a flicker of envy passed through her eyes. Her tone turned pointed, laced with sourness. "It seems you’ve been doing quite well all these years, Cousin. So these are my three nephews? Tsk... I’ve been away so long, I suppose these children wouldn’t even recognize their own aunt?"
Ariana’s expression remained neutral. She gestured to the children and said calmly, "This is my cousin. You may call her Auntie."
Lucian and Kevin instinctively disliked this aunt who had appeared out of nowhere. Especially the way she kept looking them over—it made them deeply uncomfortable.
But good manners and upbringing kept them from showing it. Besides, this was, after all, their mother’s cousin. So, the two obediently and politely called out, “Auntie.” As for Carson, he let out a cold snort. His temperament had always been defiant and unruly. In this world, aside from Lambert and Old Mr. Stone, probably no one could intimidate him.
Although recent events had forced him to become a bit more restrained and serious, deep down, he was still the same—old habits died hard.
This so-called aunt made him uncomfortable, so he simply ignored her.
Ariana frowned and shot Carson a stern glare.
Feeling the pressure from his mother’s gaze, Carson hesitated for a moment before reluctantly muttering toward Zoey, “Auntie.” Having done his duty, he immediately turned back to studying the menu with keen interest.
Zoey seemed completely unfazed by his rudeness. She gazed affectionately at Carson, Lucian, beaming as she said, “These children are all so good-looking—they’ve clearly inherited their father’s excellent genes.”
