Jane froze for a second, a flicker of regret instantly crossing her face as if she’d accidentally let slip a secret she never meant to reveal.
Zoey quickly chimed in, “Sis, I’m your sister too! Dad has always treated you like his own daughter. How could you keep something this serious from us? No wonder Ariana is so ruthless—she’s terrified this will get out and strip her of her status as the White family heir!” Her voice grew more urgent as she leaned closer. “If Ariana really isn’t Uncle’s biological daughter, we can’t just stand by and let the White Group fall into an outsider’s hands!”
Honestly…
She never would have guessed that Ariana wasn’t her uncle’s real daughter.
Was fate finally tipping the scales in her and her father’s favor?
A bitter smile tugged at Jane’s lips. “To be honest, inheritance and wealth never mattered much to me. It’s just… disheartening, that’s all.” She sighed softly. “Let’s drop this, Zoey, Uncle. Pretend I never said anything. It’s getting late—I should be going.”
With that, Jane hurriedly made her exit.
Zoey moved to stop her, but her father, Nicholas, held her back with a firm grip and a warning look. Reluctantly, Zoey bit her lip, frustration simmering in her eyes as she watched Jane walk away.
Once Jane was completely out of earshot, Zoey couldn’t hold back any longer. “Dad! Why did you stop me? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Uncle has been overshadowing you for years. If it were all in the family, fine—but now we find out he’s spent decades fighting you for control, only to hand everything over to an impostor? How can you be okay with that? Do you think Grandparents would rest peacefully knowing their legacy goes to a stranger?”
Having been abroad for so long, Zoey’s perception of the White Group was still rooted in the past. In her mind, it remained the formidable empire it once was—a fortune worth fighting for, despite any setbacks along the way.
The thought of it slipping into an outsider’s hands was unbearable.
Nicholas fell silent, pacing back and forth thoughtfully before finally speaking. “Jane deliberately revealed this to us, but we still don’t know what she’s really after.” He knew that girl all too well—she was like a venomous snake, raised for years yet never tamed.
Although he had always disliked Gilbert, he had to admit that Gilbert had genuinely cared for his niece.
But now, the moment Jane gained power, she turned against the uncle who had once doted on her. This made Nicholas increasingly uneasy. If she could mercilessly target her own uncle, what would she do to him, a distant second uncle who had never been close to her?
So, he refused to believe that Jane had come to tell him all this without some ulterior motive.
Listening to her father's analysis, Zoey felt he was being overly cautious and indecisive. Impatiently, she retorted, "Dad, think about it—Ariana not only stole Jane's beloved Vincent but also framed her, sending her to a mental hospital and then to prison. Of course, Jane would want revenge! And even if she wants a share of the White family assets, so what? Dad, did you know? Jane is now the mistress of Rawls, the heir to the Miro Corp., and she's even borne him a son."
"She probably doesn’t even care about the White family’s wealth. But even if she did, what’s the harm in letting her take the lion’s share? At least we’d be boarding a powerful ship!" And what a ship it was—the Miro Corp., an opportunity they could only dream of under normal circumstances.
As expected, Nicholas wavered. He froze for a moment, seemingly unable to believe it. "She’s Rawls’ mistress?"
Zoey nodded eagerly, like a chick pecking at grains. "Yes! Even if she’s just a mistress, one who’s borne him a child is no ordinary mistress. I think Jane is solely focused on revenge against Ariana—it has nothing to do with us. If we don’t seize this chance to align ourselves with her now, we may never get another opportunity."
"But... Ariana is married into the Stone family."
