"No! That's not what I meant..." Kiara hurriedly explained, her face flushing crimson.
The sight only deepened the amusement in Rawls' eyes.
Shaking his head with a resigned chuckle, he said, "I know. No need to explain. Just accept the gift—I’ve already told you it’s not too extravagant. Besides, I rarely take back what I’ve given. Consider it a favor to me, alright?"
With Rawls putting it that way, Kiara couldn’t refuse without seeming rude.
After hesitating for a long moment, her eyes lingering on the delicate blue diamond flower, she finally relented with a helpless nod. "Alright... thank you."
Rawls smiled. "No need for thanks. It’s an honor for it to belong to you." With that, he placed the blue diamond in Kiara’s palm. Then, glancing at the darkening sky outside, he added, "Since you have work tomorrow, let’s call it a day for our date. I’ll take you home."
Date?
Since when was this a date?
Before Kiara could untangle her muddled thoughts, Rawls continued. Flustered, she quickly shook her head. "No, I can go home by myself." She didn’t want her uncle to see another man dropping her off...
That would be awkward.
Rawls frowned. "But I won’t feel at ease unless I see you home. How about this—I’ll just walk you to the roadside?" Sensing her hesitation, he tactfully adjusted his offer.
Kiara pressed her lips together, studying the tall, handsome man before her. Finally, she gave a small nod.
Rawls smiled softly. "Then let’s go."
Kiara nodded again. "Okay."
Just as Rawls had mentioned earlier, he only escorted Kiara to the roadside without seeing her all the way home, but from this distance, he could still see whether she entered her house.
A wave of warmth washed over Kiara’s heart.
She blinked and said, "Thank you for walking me back."
Rawls chuckled. "Haha, I should be the one thanking you for spending the day as my guide. Though we won’t be meeting tomorrow, I’ll be staying in the country for a while. If you have time later, I’d love for you to show me around again. The city is huge—there must be plenty of interesting places. I’d hate to leave with regrets."
"Sure, if I’m free later, I’d be happy to," Kiara replied earnestly. "But if you get too bored waiting, you could always hire another guide to take you around the city."
"Another guide?" Rawls let out a soft laugh. "No thanks. I’d rather wait a few more days."
His words didn’t explicitly convey anything, but Kiara could sense the underlying meaning.
Her fingers tightened slightly, and her gaze flickered away.
Clearing her throat, she said, "Well... I should head in now. You should go too—be careful on your way back." After Rawls responded with a smile, she didn’t linger. Instead, she turned and walked toward the White family villa. Yet her retreating figure carried an unmistakable air of flustered escape.
Amusement flickered in Rawls’ eyes.
He let out another quiet laugh.
This girl was indeed intriguing. Compared to his other romantic interests, Rawls had far more patience with Kiara—not just because she was a potential bridge to the Stone family, but also because she had once saved him. That alone granted her a unique place in his heart.
As for Kiara, it wasn’t until Rawls was completely out of sight that the frantic pounding in her chest finally began to settle.
She took a deep breath, steadying herself outside the door for a long moment before finally pushing it open and stepping inside.
