The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 304

But running away wouldn't change the fact that a man was currently bleeding out on an operating table because of her.

Gideon had saved her.

He was lying on that cold surgical bed simply because she existed.

She could choose not to love him. She could resent his coldness and his blatant favoritism.

She could even wait for this whole ordeal to pass and then decisively walk away from their deeply fractured marriage.

But she couldn't do it right now.

Right now, she owed him a life.

Until there was a clear verdict on whether Gideon would live or die, she absolutely could not act like a heartless coward, brush herself off, change her clothes, and walk away.

Seeing Nora's resolute, almost soul-baring stubbornness, Mrs. Xavier knew that no matter what she said, her daughter would not move an inch from those emergency room doors.

Wiping her tears, Mrs. Xavier took one last long look at the blood-soaked Nora and stopped trying to persuade her.

She turned around, grabbed Nathan by the arm, and practically dragged him toward the VIP elevator.

Four agonizing hours passed.

The red light above the emergency room doors finally flicked off.

The heavy metal doors slid open. The lead surgeon pulled down his mask, exhaustion etched deeply into his face as he walked out.

Giselle immediately shoved past Julian and sprinted up to the doctor.

"Doctor! How is Gideon? Is he awake?"

The doctor looked at the frantic Giselle and let out a long sigh.

"Mr. Hayes suffered massive blunt force trauma to his back. He has multiple rib fractures and varying degrees of internal bleeding. We've completed the surgery and managed to stop the major hemorrhaging."

His tone was grave as he delivered the prognosis. "Mr. Hayes is not out of the woods yet. He needs to be transferred to the ICU for forty-eight hours of observation. If he wakes up within that window and his vitals remain stable, only then can we say he's survived the worst of it."

Liam stood off to the side, noting the vivid handprint on Nora's cheek and her blood-soaked clothes. His lips parted as if he wanted to intervene.

But considering the boss whose life hung in the balance and the heiress who was currently losing her mind, he ultimately kept his mouth shut and lowered his head.

"Giselle."

Nora spoke slowly.

"You don't need to treat me like a thief."

"I'm only staying because he got hurt trying to save me. This is the absolute bare minimum of human decency."

She took a deep breath. "Soon enough. I will do exactly what you want and voluntarily file for divorce."

Her gaze swept coldly over Giselle's face. "I don't want this marriage, or the title of Mrs. Hayes anymore."

"From now on, I will sever every single tie with the Hayes family, and with Gideon."
