Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 100

After dinner with her coworkers, Rebecca headed home. As soon as she opened the door, she saw Lottie and Samantha sitting together on the sofa. She kept her expression neutral, kicked off her shoes in the entryway, and called out, “Mom, I’m home. Did you get dinner already?”

Since the housekeeper had taken the day off, Samantha had spent the evening alone. Rebecca glanced at her with concern. Samantha walked over and took Rebecca’s coat to hang it up. “Yeah. Why are you back so late? Did you have to stay late at work again?”

“No, just had dinner with some colleagues.” Rebecca made her way to the bathroom. “I’m going to wash my hands.”

She didn’t exchange a single word with Lottie, not even a glance in her direction. It was just like earlier that day, when they’d crossed paths at the client’s office. Lottie felt a pang of annoyance.

When Rebecca came out of the bathroom, Samantha appeared from the kitchen with a plate of sliced fruit. “Rebecca, Lottie, come have some fruit.”

Rebecca sat down and quietly started chewing an apple. Lottie just sat there, sulking, refusing to move.

Samantha finally broke the silence with a sigh. “Rebecca, Lottie told me she ran into you at a client’s place today. She said you’ve started working for a Duncan Corporation company.”

Rebecca nodded. “Yeah, I told you I found a new job. It’s a subsidiary of Duncan Corporation.”

Samantha hesitated. “Is that company a competitor of NovaStack Cloud?”

Rebecca paused. “Not really. The products are pretty different.”

Samantha let out a quiet sigh of relief. That was a weight off her shoulders. If Rebecca had left NovaStack Cloud only to join a direct rival, Bruce would never approve. There’d be no hope for them.

She smiled, handing Rebecca another piece of melon. “That’s good, then.”

Lottie couldn’t stay quiet any longer. “Maybe they’re not competitors now, but who knows about the future? Rebecca, don’t forget everything NovaStack Cloud gave you. And you just leave and join a rival company? How could you do that?”

Rebecca shot her a cold look. “I brought a lot more value to NovaStack Cloud than what they ever paid me. And who are you to judge me? You’ve hung around Sonja for a few days and you think you get to boss me around?”

Lottie’s cheeks burned red. She was speechless, caught off guard by how sharp Rebecca could be. All this time, she’d thought Rebecca was soft and easy to push around. She couldn’t have been more wrong. No wonder Bruce never liked her.

Compared to Rebecca, Sonja seemed so gentle, always speaking softly and putting people at ease. Lottie couldn’t win this one, so she stood up, ready to storm out.

Samantha grabbed her arm. “Lottie.”

She turned, took Rebecca’s hand, and put it in Lottie’s, forcing them to hold hands. Her voice was gentle but firm. “Rebecca, do you remember what you said when you were little? You promised no matter what, you’d always treat Lottie like your own sister. We don’t hold grudges overnight. Lottie, Rebecca knows what she’s doing, and I know you’re just worried about her. Let’s just drop this. No more fighting.”

Rebecca was quiet for a moment before nodding. “Okay, Mom. I get it.”

Her mom’s health wasn’t great, and Rebecca didn’t want her stressing over something so trivial.
