A waitress came over to their table, and for a second, she was stunned by how good-looking Paul was. Then she glanced at Rebecca and realized they were just as attractive as each other. Of course, a cute guy would end up with a pretty girl.
She set the menus down. “May I have your order?”
Rebecca reached for a menu at the same time Paul did, and their hands brushed. She pulled hers back quickly and looked up. “Mr. Larson, you can order first.”
Paul pressed his lips together, hesitating about telling her she didn’t need to call him Mr. Larson, but what else could she call him? Paul? That sounded even weirder, honestly, for both of them. He let it go and pointed at the menu. “We’ll have these two signature dishes.” He handed the menu to Rebecca. She glanced at it and added two more.
The waitress took the menus and walked away.
Rebecca barely knew Paul and had no interest in getting closer. She’d only invited him out to settle a favor, nothing more.
She pressed her lips together and said, “Thank you for helping me lately.”
Paul poured her some more water. “How’s your mom doing?”
Rebecca looked down at her glass. “Her last checkup went well. She just needs to keep taking her medication and go in for regular exams.”
Paul nodded. “My uncle’s an expert in that area. If you ever need anything, you can reach out to him anytime.”
So the specialist who had added her on social media must’ve been Paul’s uncle. Now it made sense.
Their food started to arrive, dish after dish.
Rebecca remembered that Paul had said he wanted her advice on something. “You mentioned you wanted to ask me about a fintech project?”
Paul nodded and gave her a quick summary. “I’m not sure if I should invest. Could you take a look and tell me what you think?”
Rebecca thought for a moment. “There are a lot of companies doing risk control products here, and plenty of different options. The market’s pretty saturated.”
Paul got the message. She was basically telling him not to invest.
He gave a small nod. “Alright, I get it.”
