“Wait, Rebecca. Wanna stay for dinner? My treat. There’s a new place in the cafeteria, and everyone says it’s really good,” Caleb suggested, scratching his head.

“I’ll treat you next time. We have guests coming over tonight,” Rebecca called back, already walking away without looking back.

Caleb just stood there, watching her leave, feeling a little lost. He stayed that way for a moment before finally turning to go.

In a car parked nearby, Paul glanced at Judy through the rearview mirror. “You like him,” he said, not bothering to make it a question. Judy’s lips had been pressed together ever since she caught a glimpse of Caleb’s disappointed face.

Judy fluttered her lashes and made a face. “Mind your own business.”

Paul started the car, pulling away from the curb. “Fine, suit yourself. I was going to help you, but I guess you don’t need it.”
