"Paul, what are you looking at?" Morris clapped him on the shoulder, following Paul's gaze out the glass doors. There was nothing there.
Paul pulled his eyes away and took a sip of champagne. "It's nothing."
Rebecca and Stephen must just be coworkers, he thought.
He glanced at his watch. "It's getting late. I'm going home."
He set down his glass and turned to leave, but Morris caught him by the arm. "Hey! The night's still young. Stephen's gone, so all the girls here are fair game. See anyone you like? Take her home."
Morris grinned, looking sleazy, but Paul just ignored him.
Instead, he offered a warning. "Everyone here tonight is someone important. If you mess around and cause a scandal, Christian will have your head."
Morris's smile faded right away. He stuck out his lower lip in a sulk. The old man had just gotten out of the hospital. If anything serious happened, he really would get in trouble.
He thought it over, and his excitement fizzled out. He'd just broken up with his girlfriend, came to the party hoping to pick someone up, but now it seemed all he could do was look, not touch. Boring. Really boring.
If only she was here.
Lottie's face popped into his mind. She looked so easy to mess with. A little smile tugged at his lips. There’s still got time. There would be plenty of chances.
In the Rolls-Royce, after they'd been driving for a while, Stephen finally spoke up. "Sonja asked me to dance earlier."
Rebecca's fingers tightened a little. "Yeah?" she replied, letting him know she was listening.
"During the dance, she said she really hopes you'll come back to NovaStack Cloud." Stephen glanced over at the passenger seat. His long fingers tapped the steering wheel, just once, a subtle sign that he was nervous.
He wanted to know what Rebecca really thought. He knew she probably wouldn't go back, but what if she did? He always had everything under control. Now he found himself suddenly anxious about something so small.
Her hand paused. Her voice was casual. "That's been over for a long time."
She opened the door and waved at him. "Goodnight, Mr. Duncan."
Rebecca walked toward her building, but at the corner, she caught a glimpse of someone watching her. Her fingers tightened around her bag. She turned to look, but there was nothing there.
Her brow furrowed. She picked up her pace and hurried home.
Not until her silhouette disappeared did Paul finally lower his car window. He'd parked a distance away and watched her get out, waving goodbye to Stephen. Even when nobody was watching, she still called him Mr. Duncan. Clearly, they really were just normal colleagues.
Paul lit a cigarette before turning the car around and heading off.
Rebecca got home, washed up, and went straight to her desk. With less than two months until the exam, every second counted. She needed to put in the work.

The readers' comments on the novel: Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever
The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
