Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 176

Stephen sat in his office, legs crossed, looking completely relaxed. “I heard about what happened with Greg. You handled it really well.”

Rebecca tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, showing off a tiny pearl earring. “Just doing my job,” she said, calm and collected, not fishing for compliments or anything.

Stephen smiled at her. Honestly, sometimes he wished Rebecca would just come right out and ask for something. Whatever it was, he’d find a way to get it for her. He was also, once again, seriously relieved that she’d decided to join Sunforge Tech. If she were still over at NovaStack Cloud, Sunforge probably wouldn’t even be around anymore.

“Mr. Duncan, about Greg’s role,” Rebecca began. “I’d like to hire a senior architect. Next year’s R&D workload is going to be heavy, and having an architect on board could really take a lot of the pressure off the team.”

Stephen nodded right away. “Sounds good to me. I actually have someone to recommend. He just got back from the Capital. I’ll have him send you his resume, and you two can set up a meeting.”

“Alright,” Rebecca agreed.

With that settled, Rebecca stood up to leave, but her phone started ringing. The number wasn’t one she recognized, but she answered anyway.

To her surprise, it was Dr. Palmer.

“Dr. Palmer?” Rebecca’s voice shot up with excitement. “Is there something you need?”

After her last exam, she had texted him, but all she got back was a cold “Noted.” For him to call her out of the blue now—she couldn’t help but feel a little thrilled.

On the other end, Dr. Palmer cleared his throat. “Is Stephen there with you?”

Rebecca nodded, even though he couldn’t see her. “Yes, he is.”

“Perfect. Put me on speaker. I have something to discuss with both of you.”

Rebecca stared at him. “That’s it? You just hung up? I think he had more to say...”

Stephen pressed his lips together, looking away. He just couldn’t stand seeing her eyes go red like that.

Sure enough, a second later, Rebecca’s phone buzzed with a new message. It was from Dr. Palmer. [Ribbon-cutting in two weeks. Make sure you come with Stephen.]

Stephen saw it too. “We’ll go together,” he said.

“Okay,” Rebecca replied, quickly texting Dr. Palmer back.

That night, the candidate her boss had mentioned finally messaged her and sent over his resume.
