“It’s going to work,” Sonja said as she slid in next to him. “Aside from Duncan Corporation, NovaStack Cloud is the biggest investor in the project. Dr. Palmer will see that we’re serious.”

Paul nodded. Larson Group had put money into the project too.

While they were deep in business talk, Morris shook his head, exasperated. “I can’t believe you. Come on. It’s New Year’s Eve. No word stuff, okay?”

“This is supposed to be a good time. Should we call a couple of girls?” Morris grinned.

“Bruce’s out. So, one for you, one for me?” He shot Paul a look.

Paul just shook his head, his face saying, ‘hopeless.’ He stood, stretching out his long legs, and grabbed his coat. “I have to go. Have fun.”

“Hey, don’t leave. If you don’t want girls, I won’t call them, alright?”

Paul didn’t answer. Just the back of his head and the heavy sound of the door closing.

Morris threw up his hands. “Seriously, what’s up with him lately? He’s been weird.”

Sonja ran her fingers through her wavy hair. “Maybe he got a crush on someone.”

“Oh, right!” Morris smacked his own forehead. “At Judy’s birthday party, there’s that girl he walked downstairs.”

“I wonder what she looks like, if she can make Paul fall for her.”

Sonja smiled. “No need to wonder. She has to be gorgeous.”

Morris raised his eyebrows. “And your assistant? Haven’t seen her around.”
