Did I really park on the wrong level again? Cindy groaned and tapped her forehead, annoyed with herself. Ever since Jon showed up, her whole brain felt scrambled. There was just something about him that threw her off.

She hadn’t even noticed Jon behind her until he spoke. Watching her smack her own forehead, he couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at his lips. He pointed across the garage, his voice calm. "Your car’s over there."

Cindy forced a smile. "Thanks." In her head, though, she was cursing him out. Always in my business.

She pressed the key fob, and sure enough, her car chirped from exactly where Jon had pointed. As she opened the door, she caught sight of Jon already sliding into the driver’s seat of a Mercedes right next to her. No wonder he knew where she’d parked.

Later, Jon’s car rolled up the drive to the Garfield family estate. The butler spotted him and hurried inside. "Ma’am, Jon is home."

Madison was already moving, calling out to the kitchen, "Hurry, bring out dinner."

Jon stepped into the entryway and kicked off his shoes. "Mom, I’m home."

Madison took the bag from his hand, her eyebrows pulling together. "What’s this?"

"It’s my laptop. I thought I’d get some work done over the weekend," Jon explained.

Madison’s temples throbbed as she shook her head. "Honestly, Jon, you could have been a manager at our own company, but you insisted on working for Duncan Corporation as some architect. Now look, you’re even working over the weekend."

She was already grabbing her phone. "I’m calling Stephen. He needs to lighten your workload."

Jon loosened his collar and let out a laugh. "Mom, I’m working because I want to. My boss isn’t making me, and Stephen’s not even my direct supervisor. Please don’t bother him."
