Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 201

Stephen was the first to recover from the shock. He walked over, calm and collected. “Let me do it.” He held out his arms and looked at Paul. There was no mistaking what he meant. He wanted to take Rebecca from Paul and carry her himself.

A flash of surprise crossed Paul’s face, but he quickly set his jaw and stared back. The two men were so similar, in both height and build, that it felt like they were mirroring each other. Stephen’s voice was steady as he explained, “She came up with us. Now that she’s hurt, it’s my responsibility. I’ll take her to the hospital.”

Paul’s laugh was soft and a little mocking. That excuse was a stretch and everyone knew it. He raised an eyebrow. “Maybe we should ask what she wants.”

Rebecca glanced from the man holding her to the one waiting with open arms. The tension between them was so thick she could barely breathe. She had no idea what to do.

After a long pause, she finally spoke up, her voice hesitant. “Honestly, I think I can walk.”

“No!”

“No!”

Both men answered at the same time.

Rebecca groaned and ran her hand through her hair, then shot Cindy a pleading look. “Hey, don’t you work out every day? This is your chance to prove it.”

Cindy caught on right away. With a grin, she shrugged off her jacket. “Absolutely. I’ve got muscles. Hand Rebecca over. I’ll carry her to the car.”

Rebecca nearly sagged with relief. Paul hadn’t expected things to get this ridiculous, but letting Cindy take over was way better than giving in to Stephen. He was extra careful as he passed Rebecca to Cindy, gentle and protective to the last moment. “You guys go ahead and head down the mountain. I’ll grab the apples and catch up.”

So Rebecca, Cindy, and the others headed off first.
