The next morning, sunlight streamed in and woke her up. She squinted, instinctively covering her eyes, and rolled over, calling softly, “Paul…” Her voice trailed off as she realized something was wrong. She froze, shocked.
Morris was already awake, rubbing his eyes. He had clearly heard her call out. He smirked. “So it was Paul you meant to drug, huh? Too bad for you, he went home early last night.”
Lottie’s eyes widened in disbelief, her anger flaring. “What did you do to me last night?”
Morris just raised an eyebrow and took her chin in his hand. “Shouldn’t you be asking what you tried to do to me?”
He stretched, completely unfazed, then casually lit a cigarette. “There was something off about that juice you gave me. I didn’t get it at first. But then, when I started feeling weird and you came knocking, it all made sense.”
His gaze turned sharp. “You wanted to set Paul up and snag him as your husband?”
He laughed, shaking his head. “You really think you’re in his league?”
Lottie’s mind was in chaos. She couldn’t believe she’d slept with the wrong person. By the time she processed everything, Morris was already in the shower. The sound of water running in the bathroom reminded her this wasn’t some bad dream. It all really happened.
A wild idea popped into her head. If she couldn’t be Paul’s wife, then Morris would do. Anything was better than ending up with that old, fat man.
Even thought her clothes were a mess and her eyes were red, Lottie quickly got dressed and rushed out of the room.
Morris stepped out a little later, towel in hand, only to see she was gone. He let out a cold chuckle. She was bold enough to drug Paul, but ran off the second things got real.
Judy just shrugged. “I’m an adult. My life, my choice.”
Rebecca laughed. “Alright, you said it.”
After they hung up, she shot a message to Jon. [New intern joining the R&D team Monday.]
After breakfast, Rebecca headed to the research base. Today, the office was packed. She’d never seen so many people there at once. Everyone was one of Dr. Palmer’s students, from master’s to doctoral candidates. Most of them she recognized from the professor’s birthday party.
She smiled and greeted everyone as she walked in. Martha, sitting nearby, frowned in confusion. Once Rebecca had passed, she nudged the person next to her. “Who is that? She’s not one of Dr. Palmer’s students. Why is she allowed in here?”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
