Bruce seemed uneasy, but he didn’t go into detail. He just gave a quick rundown of the fierce competition between the two companies lately.
“What?” Kelley’s anger flared. “She’s actually trying to ruin you, to ruin NovaStack Cloud. That bitch!”
“Mom,” Bruce cut in, feeling like she was being way too dramatic. The last thing he wanted was to hear her talk about Rebecca like that. He stood up, heading for the stairs. “I’m tired. I’m going to bed.”
Kelley trailed after him. “Wait, what about meeting Sonja’s parents this weekend...”
“I already told Sonja we have to cancel. There’s an executive meeting at NovaStack Cloud.”
Kelley nodded, clearly approving. “You’re right. The company comes first. Love can wait.”
The next day, Kelley decided to handle things herself. She went to see Rebecca without telling Bruce.
At the restaurant, Rebecca handed her some water. Back when she and Bruce were together, Kelley had always treated her well.
“Mrs. Lamont, was there something you wanted to talk about?” Rebecca broke the silence.
Kelley flashed a smile, sizing her up. “It’s been a while. Rebecca, you’re even more beautiful and elegant than before.”
Rebecca smiled and thanked her, but she knew Kelley wasn’t here just to hand out compliments. She waited quietly, sipping her coffee.
Kelley got straight to the point. “Rebecca, I heard your company is going head to head with NovaStack Cloud.”
“Yes. It’s just business.”
“But Bruce is losing sleep over this. Couldn’t you, for old times’ sake, go a little easier? I know you’re upset about the breakup, but love can’t be forced.”
Rebecca almost laughed out loud. Seriously? Bruce needed his mom to beg for him?
Stephen walked down from a private room upstairs. He paused to tell Liam to walk the clients out, then made his way over.
Kelley looked him up and down, noticing his sharp suit and the kind of confidence that came with power, but she couldn’t quite place him.
“Mr. Duncan,” Rebecca called out, and only then did Kelley realize who he was. This was Stephen Duncan, the head of Duncan Corporation, the oldest son of the Duncan family. In Coralbridge, no family was more powerful than the Duncans. The Lamonts didn’t even come close.
Kelley’s attitude changed in a heartbeat. She forced a smile. “I’m so sorry. I lost track of myself. I hope I didn’t disturb your meeting, Mr. Duncan.”
Stephen looked calm and polite, but he wasn’t so easy to fool. The corner of his mouth lifted. “You already did.”
She hadn’t expected him to be so blunt. Kelley’s face turned red. She grabbed her bag and hurried for the door. “Well, I have things to take care of. Please excuse me.”
Once she got in the car, she told the driver to hurry. As they drove, she started to calm down, but something about what happened in the restaurant felt strangely familiar. Then, suddenly, it hit her. Wasn’t the man she’d seen with Rebecca last year Stephen? Her heart skipped a beat.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
