Thanks to her cousin, Sonja knew Martha came from a modest background. She dressed simply, lived simply, and girls like that were always the most tempted by a little glamour.
“Thanks, sis.” Martha bit her lip, her voice tight with determination. “Don’t worry, I’ve figured out a way to handle what you asked.”
Sonja acted clueless. “What are you talking about?”
She smiled, lips curling just a bit. “As long as you have a plan, that’s good.”
Once the call ended, Sonja quickly scrolled through the messages with Martha, double-checking for anything that could come back to bite her. When she saw nothing suspicious, she finally let herself relax.
Rebecca, are you feeling proud of yourself right now? Enjoy it while it lasts. I won’t let you stay on top forever.
After lunch, Rebecca and Caleb took a walk in the little park by campus, just to stretch their legs. They were in the middle of an easy conversation when a tall figure stepped into view ahead of them.
Rebecca’s steps faltered for a second.
Shawn spoke up first. “Caleb, I’ve got some paperwork for you.”
Ever since the professor refused to sell the patent to NovaStack Cloud, Sonja and Bruce had lost all interest in the research project. They didn’t even pretend to care anymore. But since the company had already sunk money into it, Bruce told Shawn to keep tabs, attend the monthly meetings, and send him regular updates.
A few days ago, Caleb asked for a requirements report, so Shawn made a point to deliver it today. First thing he saw after parking his car was Rebecca and Caleb walking in the park.
“Thanks.” Caleb took the folder, but when Shawn didn’t move, he looked up, confusion flickering in his eyes.
“Sorry,” Shawn said, glancing at Caleb. “I was hoping to talk to Rebecca alone for a minute. Is that okay?”
Caleb looked surprised. He glanced between the two of them. “You guys know each other?”
Rebecca’s gaze dropped. Her voice was neutral. “We’ve run into each other a few times.”
“Oh. I see.”
“We haven’t yet, but you never know,” Shawn said, sounding a little mysterious.
Rebecca shot him a look but didn’t push it.
Just then, Shawn’s phone rang. Sonja was calling.
Rebecca immediately stepped away, giving him some privacy.
Shawn answered, his voice full of mock annoyance. “Hello? It’s the weekend. Don’t tell me you want me to work overtime.”
Sonja’s voice was cool. “I honestly don’t care about the company. I just want results.”
Shawn arched an eyebrow. “So why are you calling?”
Sonja lowered her voice. “Do you have any of that stuff?”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
