The first thing on the app’s task list was simple enough. Find at least three items with the ‘Sunforge Tech’ logo, snap a photo of each, and upload them. Once the uploads went through, you were done.
The event team had hidden branded items all over the island, so if you bothered to look around, they weren’t exactly hard to spot.
The sun was a little too bright, so Rebecca lifted her hand to block the light. She scanned the area. There were flowers everywhere, clumps of trees, and not far off, a coffee shop and a dessert bar. Honestly, if she were a logo, she’d be hiding in one of those.
“Liam, you try the coffee shop. I’ll check the dessert place. Let’s see who finds one first.”
She waited for an answer, but nobody replied. Turning around, she realized Liam was nowhere to be seen. Instead, Stephen stood behind her, dressed all in white with one hand in his pocket. The wind off the water tugged at his shirt, making him look almost too perfect to be real.
Liam had completely vanished.
Rebecca blinked. “Where did Liam go?”
Stephen raised his eyebrows, his voice as casual as ever. “He said his stomach hurt. Told us to go ahead without him.”
Rebecca took his word for it and just pointed toward the coffee shop. “Alright, then. Why don’t you take the coffee shop?”
“Sure.” Stephen set off, his stride relaxed.
Inside, the coffee shop was packed. The second he walked in, a group of tourists started whispering excitedly. “Look, at three o’clock. That guy’s gorgeous.”
Stephen barely paused before stopping in front of their table. “Hi, sorry to bother you. Have you seen anything with this logo on it?”
The girls looked up, completely flustered. “Yes! Over here!”
In less than a minute, Stephen had his photo and was done.
Rebecca, meanwhile, stood outside the dessert shop and heaved a long sigh.
Some people just made life look easy.
Still, she managed to snap a photo herself. One more to go.
The two of them kept moving, searching as they walked. Neither said much. Silence settled between them, but it didn’t feel awkward.
Finally, hidden in a thicket, Rebecca spotted a signpost with the company logo. She snapped a photo, feeling a little triumphant.
She glanced up, only to lock eyes with Stephen. His gaze was dark and intense.
Her heart skipped. She gripped her phone a little tighter and quickly looked away, turning to walk ahead.
Stephen watched her, his eyes following the stiff set of her shoulders. He let out a slow breath.
