Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 300

“No, you’re lying.” Rebecca shook her head, her voice barely louder than the rain outside, soft and cool.

Stephen didn’t rush to explain. Instead, he stepped forward and pulled her gently into his arms. His hold was careful, almost fragile, but there was a stubborn strength in it that left her nowhere to go.

“I’m not lying.” His voice was low and steady, the kind that slipped right into her heart. “The first time we met was at that client’s office. You sat across from me and, with just a few words, convinced the client and steered the whole meeting. You were so confident, so bright.”

He paused, lost in memory for a moment. “Later, when you said you were joining Duncan Corporation, I didn’t sleep a wink that night. I just kept staring at your acceptance email, opening it again and again. After that, every report, every meeting, every time we were alone, I just wanted to be closer to you.”

He took a quiet breath, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Rebecca, I’m so grateful you left him, and even more grateful you’re here with me. My feeling for you is the one thing I’ve never doubted.”

His words echoed in her ears, his deep voice sending shockwaves through her. He had noticed her from the very beginning? How had she never realized?

He said he’s in love with her. He said it so sincerely.

Rebecca’s fingers trembled as she slowly rested her hands on his lean waist. The second she touched him, she pulled back.

No, this couldn’t be right. If everything he said was true, then why had Mrs. Duncan come to her? Maybe Mrs. Duncan had done it behind Stephen’s back. But even so, she spoke for the whole Duncan family. His family would never accept her. Her last relationship had already taught her that people from different worlds rarely end up together.

Rebecca’s heart began to sink. She stepped out of Stephen’s arms, her voice suddenly distant. “Mr. Duncan, I’m sorry. We can only be colleagues. Please, take back what you said. I’ll pretend I never heard any of it.”

Her coldness was like a bucket of ice water, dousing the hope in Stephen’s chest. But his confession wasn’t a whim. He had expected this.
