The air practically buzzed with unspoken tension, and Cindy could barely contain her curiosity. She carried over the dinner tray and handed it to Rebecca.
“Here, Stephen made sure the hotel saved this just for you. He was worried you’d wake up hungry, so he asked the staff to prepare it and made me swear I’d bring it to you the moment you opened your eyes.”
Right then, Cindy was acting like a one-woman matchmaking service, talking up her brother as if he were some rare treasure. Rebecca knew she was laying it on thick, but the way the warm, savory seafood soup spread through her chest made her heart skip just a little.
Cindy noticed Rebecca ducking her head, silent, and immediately assumed she was just embarrassed. Her eyes gleamed with mischief.
“My brother said he found you in the cave. So… did anything happen between you two in there?”
Rebecca looked up. “What could possibly have happened?”
“Oh, please. You know how it is in those dramas. The guy and girl get trapped in a cave, her clothes get soaked, she has to take them off to dry by the fire, and then… you know, things just happen.”
Rebecca almost choked on her soup.
“Seriously, you need to stop watching so many TV dramas,” she shot back, her cheeks burning.
Cindy wasn’t ready to give up. “So, nothing happened at all?”
“Nothing!” Rebecca finished her soup, set her bowl aside, and got out of bed to head for the bathroom. That’s when she noticed something—someone had put ointment on her foot.
She stared for a second.
“My brother did that for you. Kinda sweet, right?”
Rebecca didn’t answer. “I need to freshen up.”
“Still thinking about Rebecca? She’s fine, you know. Stephen’s with her…”
Before he could finish, Paul turned and shot him a look so sharp it made Morris’s skin crawl. He shut up immediately.
“So when did you fall for her? I never noticed before,” Morris said quietly. Anyone could see it. That look just now was pure jealousy, so intense that he didn’t even want to hear another guy’s name.
Morris was really curious. Had Paul already crushed on Rebecca back when she was Bruce’s girlfriend?
He stubbed out his cigarette and patted Paul’s shoulder one more time.
“Look, I get it. But don’t let Bruce find out. He’s about to get engaged to Sonja. If he knew what was going on with you… I don’t think he could handle it.”
He added, “And, just saying, if you’re going to date her, go ahead. But don’t rush into marriage or anything. Her family is not going to help your future, you know?”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
