Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 318

Rebecca felt her heart swell with warmth. She threw her arms around Cindy in a big, tight hug, her eyes shining with tears. “Thank you, Cindy. You’re honestly too good to me.”

Cindy hugged her back just as tightly. “Of course. What matters most is that you’re happy.”

Rebecca let out a shaky laugh. “If only I’d been born a guy. If I were, we’d be perfect for each other.”

Rebecca’s words made Cindy laugh through her tears. “Don’t say that. I don’t want Jon to end up hating me.”

Cindy’s cheeks turned pink. “What are you talking about?”

Rebecca grinned, teasing. “Come on, I’m not blind. Remember at the last company retreat? He gave you that piggyback ride, and the way he looked at you… you could practically feel the tenderness.”

Cindy shook her head, flustered. “You must have imagined it. There’s no way he’d be gentle with me.”

Rebecca paused for a moment, thinking it over. “Cindy, I really think you still care about him. Why not just talk to him and clear things up?”

Cindy looked down, falling silent.

Seeing her reaction, Rebecca knew it was better to drop the subject.

After her vacation, Maggie dove straight into her pile of board work, barely looking up from her computer. Suddenly, her desk phone rang.

She picked up without glancing away. “Hello?”

She definitely wasn’t expecting to hear Liam’s voice.

Maggie’s fingers froze above the keyboard, her grip on the receiver tightening. “Liam? What’s up?”

They were both assistants, but their jobs were pretty different. Maggie mostly handled board business and personal matters for Chelsey, while Liam focused on the CEO’s office.

So getting a call from Liam was unusual.

“Hi, Maggie. Actually, it’s Mr. Duncan who wants to see you. The board meeting is coming up and he’d like to talk through some details in person.”

Maggie didn’t say anything right away. Was it really just about work?

A hostess recognized her right away and smiled. “Maggie, welcome back! I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.”

As she led Maggie to the second floor, the hostess kept chatting. “And what a coincidence, you got the same room again. Is Mrs. Duncan joining you today?”

A low, calm male voice came from inside the private room. “Oh? Who did Mrs. Duncan meet here last time?”

Maggie paused, surprised to see Stephen had arrived before her.

She quickly shot the hostess a look to keep quiet. The hostess got the message, handed over the menus, and slipped out.

Maggie took a seat and gave Stephen a polite nod, forcing a smile. “Sorry I’m late, Mr. Duncan. I was held up reporting to Mrs. Duncan.”

Stephen didn’t seem bothered at all by her excuse. “It's alright.”

He leaned back, looking relaxed. “So, Maggie, do you know who my mother met here last time?”
