“I don’t just need you to explain everything that happened. I need Mom to apologize to Rebecca, face to face.”
Cindy hesitated for a moment. “Mom is really stubborn. I’m not sure I can talk her into apologizing to Rebecca.”
“It’s fine. Just do your best. I’ll take care of the rest.”
When Cindy left the study, she headed downstairs but couldn’t find Chelsey anywhere. The housekeeper told her, “She felt tired today. She’s already gone upstairs to rest.”
Cindy didn’t say anything else. She just turned and went upstairs too.
The next morning, Cindy got up early and went downstairs for breakfast. Stephen had already left for work, so it was just her and Chelsey at the table.
Chelsey looked at her in surprise. “Wow, what’s going on? You’re up before eight?”
Sunforge Tech started work at nine. Normally, Cindy would wake up around eight-thirty, rush through her morning routine, eat breakfast, and barely make it to work on time. But today, she was already sitting at the dining table before eight.
Chelsey’s eyes were wide in disbelief.
Cindy grinned. “I just figured it’s been way too long since I spent any real time with you. And since it’s Mother’s Day, I thought I’d celebrate with you.” She clung to Chelsey’s arm, playfully.
She smiled, warm and soft. “So you’re not going to work today? You’re staying home with me?”
Cindy nodded, still munching on her sandwich. “I’m off today. Whatever you want to do, I’m your sidekick!”
Chelsey took a sip of her coffee. “Alright then. There’s a private jewelry show today. You can come with me.”
“Of course!”
“You still want to marry Jon, right? I saw the way you looked at him when you brought him home last time. You definitely have feelings for him, you just don’t want to admit it.”
Cindy almost spit out her coffee. “Mom, what are you even talking about?”
“Don’t fake it. A mother knows her daughter best. I know exactly what’s on your mind.”
Alright then, Cindy thought. Since we’re here, I might as well just go with it. She did have something she’d been meaning to ask.
“So, Mom, do you know why Jon broke up with his ex-girlfriend? He moved to the Capital after graduation for her, right? He was even planning to settle down there.”
Chelsey frowned a little. “He didn’t go to the Capital for his ex-girlfriend.”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
