Twenty minutes later, Timothy and his assistant finally arrived. Rebecca stepped up with a bright, professional smile. “Hi, I’m Rebecca from Sunforge Tech. Here’s my card.” She offered her business card with both hands, and Timothy took it, his smile warm but his eyes sharp.
“Ms. Harper, you are impressive. I’ve never seen such an incredible track record. I watched your product launch online, and the district’s awards ceremony too. You stood out. Among all those young talents, you were in a league of your own.”
Rebecca smiled. “Thank you,” she said lightly.
Timothy looked to be in his forties, with a calm, steady presence. He wasn’t exactly friendly, and he had the kind of authority that filled the room. Still, he was direct. As soon as they sat down, he got right to the point and explained Coralbridge Bank’s challenges and what they needed from a system.
Rebecca listened carefully, filing away every detail, then shared her own ideas for how they could help. Timothy nodded the whole time, clearly interested. “Exactly, that’s what we’re looking for. A system that actually helps our traders work faster, keeps risk low, and if we’re lucky, boosts profits too.”
By the end of lunch, they’d pretty much agreed to work together. Timothy said he’d have his team handle the next steps and work out the details with Sunforge Tech.
With the deal basically sealed, Rebecca finally let herself relax. She asked Timothy casually. “Sunforge Tech is just a small company, and honestly, I’m nothing special. For you to reach out to me directly, someone must have put in a good word. I’m curious who it was. Whoever they are, they’re very mysterious. Doing good without leaving a name. I really should thank them.”
Timothy’s eyes flickered as he looked away, chuckling. “Ms. Harper, you’re too humble. Both you and Sunforge Tech are well respected. There’s no need for anyone to recommend you. In our field, your reputation speaks for itself. Coralbridge Bank is the biggest in the city, so of course we want to work with the best.”
He was dodging the question. He clearly didn’t want to say who was behind it. Rebecca picked up on it right away. She decided to let it go. When the time was right, she figured, she’d find out.
Over lunch, Rebecca tried to casually bring up Skyline Capital. Timothy just sighed quietly, not saying a word. That silence spoke louder than anything he could have said. Rebecca felt her heart sink. The anonymous tip she got must be true. There really was something off about Skyline Capital.
