Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 332

“The good news is, Rebecca and Mom made up. They actually had a really nice talk.” That was genuinely good news, exactly what Stephen had been hoping for. But what about the bad news? Stephen’s brow furrowed as he loosened his tie, bracing himself. “The bad news is, Rebecca told Mom you two are just coworkers. She said you’re not close at all.”

That stung. Bitterness tightened in his chest and his eyes went dark with disappointment. The silence stretched so long that Cindy finally called out, her voice full of worry. “Stephen? Are you alright?”

He forced a small laugh, trying to sound casual. “I’m okay. Don’t worry about me. You should get to work. I’ll handle my own stuff.”

After he hung up, there was a knock at the door. Liam peeked in. “Mr. Duncan, I just spoke with Leah again. She’s free at noon the day after tomorrow.”

Stephen nodded. “Alright, set it up for then. Let me know once everything’s arranged.”

Liam was about to leave when Stephen added, “Find out what Leah likes, and make sure everything’s set up to her taste.”

Liam blinked in surprise. The last time he’d been told to contact Leah, Stephen had been just as insistent about being polite and careful. It was enough to make anyone think Leah was terrifying, but she’d actually been nothing but pleasant. Still, orders were orders. “Got it, Mr. Duncan. I’ll take care of it.”

As he walked away, Liam couldn’t help but wonder why his boss needed Leah so badly. According to his research, Leah mostly handled divorce cases. But Stephen was single, and so was his sister. As for the rest of the Duncan family, well, they were either too old or already gone.

Pushing his questions aside, Liam made his way to the law firm. He’d just have to figure out what Leah liked and make it happen.

Meanwhile, over at Rebecca’s office, she was in the middle of work when her phone rang. The caller introduced himself as the assistant to the president of Coralbridge Bank, one of the top commercial banks in the city. He said he was really interested in Sunforge Tech's latest product.

Rebecca perked up. This was business falling straight into her lap. Smiling, she said, “Thank you for reaching out. How about this—I’ll send you the details by email first, and if you are interested, I’d love to meet and talk in person.”

Someone doing her a favor behind the scenes? Rebecca’s mind flashed back to that anonymous text she’d gotten. Was it the same person helping her now? She narrowed her eyes, turning the idea over in her head. Who could it be, quietly looking out for her?

One name popped up immediately, but she brushed it aside. It couldn’t be Stephen. It just didn’t feel right.

Instead of guessing, she decided she’d get her answers at the meeting.

Soon enough, the day of the lunch arrived. Rebecca got to the private dining room early, checking everything to make sure it was perfect. She sent the assistant a quick message, asking about the president’s food preferences, and placed the order in advance.

The president had other business to take care of that afternoon, so their lunch meeting would only last an hour. Every minute counted, and being prepared was everything.
