Leah grinned. “No problem. This case was pretty straightforward, so I’m not charging much.” She named her price, and Rebecca stared at her in disbelief.

That number was nothing like what she’d seen online. Everything she’d read said Leah was nearly impossible to book, only took on big cases, and wouldn’t even consider anything less than ten million. Her fees were supposed to be sky high. But not only had Leah accepted Rebecca’s five-million case, her fee was surprisingly reasonable.

Rebecca thought of Stephen right away. He was the one who introduced Leah to her. Did he have something to do with this price too?

She was about to ask when Alan walked in. Rebecca dropped the subject and turned to face him.

She braced herself for Alan to be moody or angry. She expected snide remarks about her or her mother, but he didn’t say anything like that. Alan just sat down, glanced at the paperwork, made sure everything was correct, and signed without a word. Then he transferred the money to Rebecca on the spot.

Rebecca was stunned. He seemed like a completely different person. Not trusting it, she quickly opened her banking app on her phone and double-checked the amount. She counted the zeros more than once, just to be sure.
