The HR manager had explained everything pretty clearly, laying out all the risks for everyone to see. Still, Sonja couldn't shake the feeling that she questioning her abilities.

“What’s that supposed to mean? You think I don’t get it? Or that I didn’t think this through enough?” she shot back.

The HR manager could only stare, silent for a second. “No, that’s not it.”

Sonja’s brows knit together. “Your attitude says otherwise.”

She tossed her bag onto the sofa with a loud thump. “Just do what I said. Anyone who wants to leave can just get out of here. Don’t try to stop anybody. Seriously, do these clowns actually think quitting is going to threaten me? That’s not gonna happen”

She turned to the HR manager, her tone even sharper. “Tell everyone in HR to drop everything and focus on hiring. We’ve got a month for handovers, that’s plenty of time to bring in replacements.”

Inside, the HR manager was groaning, cursing both Bruce and Sonja for making everyone’s lives so difficult. They were always stirring up trouble for their team. Still, she stayed professional. “It might be tough to find enough qualified candidates in such a short time. What if—”

Sonja cut him off with a scoff. “Raise the salaries. Pay more than anyone else then.”

The HR manager blinked, caught off guard. “But won’t that make the project way too expensive?”

“That’s not your concern. Just hire who we need,” Sonja said, her tone final.

With the VP’s word, the HR manager gave up arguing. Whatever happened next was on leadership. If the project fell apart or the company tanked, she’d just find another job.

The office went quiet. Now it was just Shawn and Sonja left.

Shawn hadn’t said a word the whole time. Sonja figured he was still stuck in whatever mood he’d been in that morning.

Suddenly, Shawn broke the silence. “Does Bruce know about your decision?”

Sonja barely glanced at him. “Does he need to? We’re about to get engaged. This company is half mine. My choice is his choice. Besides, you heard him last night. He said he’d let me handle everything.”
