Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 368

Paul instinctively brought his hand up to his mouth, his eyes flickering away. “It’s nothing, really.” Then he glanced back, softer this time. “Are you worried about me?”

Rebecca turned away, refusing to meet his gaze. “No.”

She tried to slip past him, but Paul caught on and gently gripped her shoulders so she couldn’t leave. Rebecca felt a dull ache building behind her eyes. She was out of patience. It didn’t matter if she was nice or cold, nothing seemed to work with him. Why was he so stubborn?

Just a little ways off, inside a Rolls-Royce, Liam rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. Yep, that was definitely Rebecca at the entrance. And she wasn’t alone.

“I think that’s Ms. Harper outside, with, uh, some guy…” He didn’t mention how close they looked.

Stephen sat in the back, his voice icy. “I can see.”

Liam swallowed, unsure what to do. “Should I go get Ms. Harper?”

Stephen let out a sharp breath. “Call her. Tell her there’s an issue with the Coralbridge Bank contract and she needs to come upstairs to take a look.”

Liam hesitated. “Alright. And the dinner with the client?”

“Cover for me.”

Liam nodded and got right on it. Meanwhile, Stephen had already opened the door and was striding back into the building, his steps quick and sure.

The call was the perfect excuse for Rebecca. “Thanks, Liam. I’m coming up now.”

She hung up and turned to Paul. “Sorry, my boss needs me. I have to go.”

Before she left, she added, “I might be a while. You should just head home. Don’t wait for me.”

Paul frowned. The timing was too weird. He couldn’t help but ask, “Was that Stephen?”

Rebecca didn’t answer. She just hurried inside through the revolving door.

Paul didn’t leave. He went back to his car, lit a cigarette, and waited. He wasn’t in a rush. He could wait all night if he had to.

Upstairs, in the executive office, Rebecca knocked and walked in. Stephen wasn’t at his desk. The office was huge, so she scanned the room and finally saw him standing by the window, his posture straight and rigid in his suit.
