Neither of them had had dinner yet, so Stephen drove her to a nearby place for a quick bite. Afterward, he took her home. The roads were quiet, and all the lights seemed to turn green just for them. In less than half an hour, they were parked downstairs at her building.
Stephen didn’t rush to unlock the doors. Instead, he lingered, fidgeting for a moment before finally pressing the button. Then he leaned over to unbuckle Rebecca’s seatbelt himself.
“I’m home. Goodnight, drive safe,” Rebecca said as she reached for the door handle.
Before she could open it, Stephen’s arm blocked her way.
She looked at him, a little confused. “What’s up? I’m home.”
He smiled, just a hint of something in his eyes. “I know. But aren’t you forgetting something?”
Rebecca frowned. “Like what?”
Stephen turned his head a bit, giving her that unfairly handsome profile and a look that was way too intense for just saying goodbye.
Rebecca huffed out a laugh. “If you’re trying to win points for best side profile, you don’t have to try so hard. I already know you’re handsome.”
Stephen just stared at her for a second, then cleared his throat. “You know on TV, before the couple says goodnight, the girl usually…”
He tapped his own cheek.
Oh. So that was it. He was asking for a kiss.
Rebecca couldn’t help but laugh, but she played innocent. “Wow, I didn’t realize big-shot CEOs watched romance dramas.”
He blushed a little but answered seriously. “Cindy used to love those shows when she was a teenager. Sometimes I’d catch a few episodes with her.”
She grinned. “Impressive. Just a few episodes and you picked up all the moves?”
