Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 403

Rebecca barely cared anymore, but hearing that the Lamonts might kick Bruce out of the family still gave her pause. Years ago, Bruce started NovaStack Cloud to prove to everyone at Lamont that he was just as capable as Hailey. He wanted to show them that, given the chance, he could lead Lamont Inc. into greatness. Now, he was risking everything, even being disowned, just to marry Sonja. Clearly, he really loved her.

At lunch, Stephen invited Brett out to eat and asked Cindy to join them. It was just three of us, so the atmosphere was relaxed. Cindy didn’t hesitate to ask, “Brett, how long are you staying this time? Grandpa said you’ll be at the board meeting. Are you leaving right after?”

She smiled, trying to sound casual. “Not that I want you gone. If you stay a bit longer, I can show you around. Coralbridge has changed a lot these past few years.”

Brett replied, “Grandpa’s eighty-sixth birthday is next month, right? I’ll be here for that.”

Cindy’s smile faded a little. There was still a whole month before their grandfather’s birthday, so it looked like her cousin was planning to stick around for a while. She wanted to say something else, but Stephen shot her a look that made her stop. The three of them finished eating in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

After lunch, Brett thanked both of them and said he wanted to visit his father’s grave that afternoon. He didn’t have a car, so Stephen handed him his keys. “Take mine.”

Brett gave a small, grateful smile. “Thanks, man. I’ll buy a car tomorrow.”

Cindy’s head throbbed. If Brett was planning to buy a car, did that mean he was really staying for good?

Why would Brett come here? Who was he visiting? His parents both came from prominent families. There shouldn’t be any relatives buried in a place like this.

Still puzzled, Cindy got out of her car. She put on sunglasses and a hat, trying to blend in, and trailed after him.

She watched as Brett stopped at a plain headstone, gently set the second bouquet down, and bowed deeply. Then he spoke a few words, his tone serious, almost like he was making a promise. Cindy was too far away to hear everything, but she caught phrases like “take care of” and “don’t worry.”

After a minute, Brett turned and walked away, his face solemn. Cindy ducked behind some bushes, waiting until he was completely gone before hurrying over.
