Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 408

She was already feeling tipsy when her phone, tossed beside the carpet, started ringing. Cindy’s head was spinning. She didn’t want to pick up. She covered her ears, but the ringing kept coming, one call after another, relentless and annoying.

Finally, totally fed up, she grabbed the phone and answered, her words slurred and thick. “Hello? Who is it? You’re calling so late and messing with my sleep… This better be important, or you’re in big trouble!”

Jon’s voice came through the phone. He could tell right away she wasn’t sober. “Are you drinking? Where are you, at a bar or at home?”

His deep, low voice buzzed in her ear, making her shiver a little. She couldn’t help reaching up and rubbing her ear. Cindy squinted at the ceiling and the bright light made her dizzy. She slurred, “Who even are you? Mind your own business.”

Jon’s brow furrowed. He didn’t even bother with his work anymore. He grabbed his jacket, headed straight to the parking garage, and kept the phone to his ear, listening for any background noise. It was so quiet. No music, no chatter, nothing like a bar. She was probably at home.

Just to be sure, Jon called every bar she used to go to. When he confirmed she wasn’t at any of them, he let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

He got in his car and sped off toward Cindy’s apartment, not slowing down for a second. He remembered the way from last time. Taking the elevator up, he pressed the doorbell.

After a minute, Cindy peeked her head out. “Who is it?” she yelled.

As soon as she finished, she wobbled and nearly toppled backward, but Jon caught her around the waist, steadying her just in time.

She must have had feelings for him even back then.

Jon watched her sprawled out on the sofa, his face growing gentler by the second. When the food was done, and held it up to Cindy’s lips, persuading her to eat some. He finished the rest himself, not bothering to change the fork.

Even after the food, Cindy wouldn’t settle. She started whining about wanting a bath.

Jon gave up trying to argue. He stood up and went to run her a bath. He made sure the water was just right, not too hot, not too cold, careful not to make things worse for her after drinking. But when he turned around, he saw Cindy on the sofa, struggling to take off her clothes, clearly having trouble. Jon swallowed hard, unable to look away.
