Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 444

Kelley let out a sigh and got up from her chair. “I’m going to call your dad. I want to see if he’s coming home for dinner tonight.”

Bruce reached out to stop her. “Don’t bother. He’s not coming back tonight.”

She looked at him, surprised. “How do you know? Did you just come from Lamont Inc.?”

“Yeah. Dad has a business dinner,” Bruce said, making up an excuse as he went.

He knew his father wouldn’t want to come home while he was there, since he just turned down his request for help that afternoon.

At dinner, Kelley hovered over Bruce, piling food onto his plate and ladling soup into his bowl, fussing over him like he was a little kid. “You have to take care of yourself, okay?” she kept saying.

Suddenly, the butler stepped into the dining room.

“Ma’am, Ms. Lamont is here.”

Kelley paused, confused for a second. Then it hit her who the butler meant. She frowned. “What’s Hailey doing here?”

Just thinking about Hailey made her jaw clench. If it weren’t for that girl, her son would never have been punished. The anger in her chest simmered.

“Don’t let her in. She never brings good news.”

The butler hesitated, clearly uncomfortable, but before he could say anything, the sharp sound of high heels echoed from the entryway.

“Sorry to drop by uninvited,” Hailey called out as she walked in.

Her eyes swept over the dinner table, taking in the spread. She arched an eyebrow at Bruce. “Wow, look at you. Still have the appetite for a feast? I have to admit, you’ve got nerves of steel, little brother.”

Kelley, always quick to defend her son, shot out of her chair and jabbed a finger in Hailey’s direction. “What do you want now, you little bitch? I haven’t even dealt with you for what happened last time!”

Hector was not here, and everyone in the house listened to her. If she said no, the butler and the maids wouldn’t report anything to Hector. Kelley didn’t bother pretending to be polite.

Bruce’s jaw tightened, his face pale with anger. “Stay out of it. This has nothing to do with you.”

Kelley looked back and forth between them, her eyes filled with worry. “Bruce, what is she talking about? Did something happen?”

Bruce tried to reassure her, meeting her gaze. “Mom, I’m fine.”

Hailey let out a soft laugh. “Fine? That’s one way to put it. You got kicked out of your own company by your fiancée and one of your employees. She hurt you and you ended up in the hospital for a week. Is that what you call fine? Seriously, Bruce, stop pretending you’re okay. We’re family. It’s not like anyone’s going to laugh at you for it.”

Her words sounded gentle, but the look on her face was all smug satisfaction.

Bruce glared at her, but he was more worried about his mom than anything else.

Kelley’s face went pale, and she swayed as if she might collapse. “Son, is she telling the truth?”
