Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 466

Thinking about the past, Joan felt a sharp ache deep in her chest. It was her father’s mistake, so why did she have to be the one paying the price? She and Stephen had loved each other. But because of something their parents did, they’d been forced apart. She just couldn’t accept that.

“So this is what you wanted to talk about?” Rebecca gave a slight smile, her eyes never leaving Joan’s face. “I don’t think you understand him at all. If he still cared about you, he never would have started something with me.”

Rebecca stood, realizing there was nothing more to hear here. She’d expected maybe a hint of useful information, but it was clear now. Joan was just too sure of herself.

As Rebecca stepped out and waited for the elevator, a raw, desperate scream echoed from the private room. Rebecca frowned, eyebrows knitting together. She really didn’t seem all that stable.

The next morning, Rebecca headed downstairs to give Brett her report. Her phone wouldn’t stop buzzing, messages popping up over and over. Brett glanced at her, one eyebrow raised. “Ms. Harper, we only just went over the no-phones rule in meetings, remember?”

Rebecca lowered her gaze. “Sorry.” She started to put her phone away, but then photos flashed across her screen, one after another. At the end, there was a message.

“These memories belong to me and Stephen only. You’ll never have what we had.”

Rebecca’s fingers trembled, but she forced herself to breathe, pulling herself back together.

When the meeting ended, Rebecca ducked into an empty conference room. She leaned against the wall, feeling like her strength was draining away. It took a long time for her to calm down. Finally, she dialed Stephen’s number.

“Hey, are you free tonight? We haven’t had dinner together in ages. Let’s go out. I actually have something I want to talk to you about.”

Stephen was out with clients, but as soon as he heard the strain in her voice, he found a reason to step away. “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

Rebecca tried to sound gentle, hiding her worry. “It’s nothing big. We’ll talk tonight, okay?”

“Alright. I’ll see you then.”

Once Rebecca was gone, Marissa, who had been lurking nearby, whipped out her phone and called Joan. “She acts like she doesn’t care, but I saw her eyes. Totally red. She’s just pretending to be tough. Joan, you should push a little harder. Make her give up and walk away.”

“Oh, and she called Stephen just now. Wants to have dinner with him tonight.”
