Cindy tossed her purse onto the sofa, her hands on her waist, glaring at the man lounging in the chair. “Stephen, you’ve really outdone yourself this time. A secret love child? Seriously?”
She didn’t give him a chance to reply. “And then you actually showed up at their place with a check. Wow. As if that wasn’t enough, you got caught by reporters. The story blew up online and you’re just letting it rot there for everyone to see.” Cindy snorted. “Did you forget you have a girlfriend? I know you two are keeping things quiet, but it doesn’t mean you get to treat Rebecca however you want. I’m on her side, just so you know.”
She was fuming. All she’d done was take a few days off, barely checked her phone, and today on her way to work, she’d seen it. Her brother and his so-called love child, plastered all over the trending topics. People everywhere were talking about them. She felt like her world was about to collapse.
She’d floored it straight to work, running red lights just to get an explanation out of him.
Stephen glanced up at her, not even bothering to answer her rant. Instead, he asked, “So, what were you up to during your time off? And why haven’t you been home lately?”
Cindy stared at him, thrown off. “Are you seriously asking about me right now? Maybe worry about your own mess first.”
Stephen twirled a pen between his fingers. “Jon took a few days off too. Same dates as you. Isn’t that interesting?”
Cindy hesitated, a little guilty, but she forced herself to sound confident. “Plenty of people in this company took time off. Across the country, there must be thousands on leave right now.”
Stephen raised an eyebrow. “We’re talking about you, not everyone else. And don’t think I don’t notice you trying to change the subject.”
Cindy clenched her jaw, then dropped into the chair across from him, ready to go another round. “Are you just not going to explain what’s going on? It’s not just me who wants answers. Mom’s probably on her way over too.”
Stephen crossed his legs, sounding way too calm. “Mom’s out on a business trip. She won’t be back anytime soon.”
“Stephen… you…” Cindy was so angry she could barely speak.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
