After that day, Cindy stopped trying to talk sense into anyone. Instead, she just watched quietly, hoping maybe she’d been overthinking things. But the more she observed, the heavier her heart felt. An entire week went by and she didn’t catch Rebecca and Stephen meeting up. There were no dates, no phone calls, nothing.
That night, as Jon wrapped his arms around her and they settled into bed, Cindy suddenly flipped over and sat up straight. “Do you think my brother’s actually planning to acknowledge that kid? Is he really going to break up with Rebecca?”
Jon reached over and patted her shoulder, trying to calm her down. “I don’t think so. He’s got a good head on his shoulders. He knows what he’s doing.”
Cindy clenched her teeth. “He knows… absolutely nothing! I’ve lived with him for almost thirty years and this is honestly the first time I’m realizing just how dumb he is.”
Maybe it was the whole sisterhood thing, or maybe her friendship with Rebecca was just that deep, but Cindy couldn’t help putting herself in Rebecca’s shoes. If her own boyfriend got caught up in a scandal like this and didn’t even bother to explain, she’d lose her mind. She’d probably kill him.
Thinking about it made her narrow her eyes at Jon. She let out a huff. “Men. Not a single good one out there.”
Jon gaped at her, completely thrown. How did he end up getting blamed? He hadn’t done anything. He was just minding his own business and suddenly he was the bad guy? Totally unfair.
He scooped Cindy back into his arms, planted three big, noisy kisses on her cheek, and tried to clear his name. “Babe, I swear, I won’t do anything like that. Come on, if you’re going to swing that club, could you at least aim right? Don’t go knocking out your sweet, innocent husband by mistake.”
At the Duncan house, Stephen had just finished working for the night and made his way downstairs to get a glass of water. Out of nowhere, he sneezed three times in a row. He rubbed his eyes. Was the air conditioning too cold or something?
Just then, he heard the sound of a car engine outside. Through the dim lighting by the bar, he recognized Chelsey’s car pulling in. A few minutes later, Chelsey walked through the door. She stopped for a second when she saw her son on the sofa.
Stephen looked up. “Mom, you’re back from your trip? It’s late. Why didn’t you just stay the night and come home in the morning?”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
