Charlie went quiet. He took a slow sip and sighed, “This is really good.”
He set the cup down and suddenly turned to Jon.
“Jon, you aren’t getting any younger. Stephen already has a son. What are you planning to do about your own future?”
Jon blinked, caught off guard. “Wait, are you saying you want me to have a kid out of wedlock too?”
Charlie’s expression darkened, like he’d just tasted burnt toast. “I’m talking about marriage. When do you plan to settle down?”
Jon pressed his lips together, trying not to smile. “But my brother isn’t married yet.”
Charlie shook his head. “Richie might not be married, but things are basically set for him. You, on the other hand, don’t even have a girlfriend. How about this, your mother will introduce you to a few girls from our circle. There are plenty of nice, eligible young ladies. You can’t just spend all day writing code. Make some time to talk to girls. You need to get to know them.”
Basically set?
Jon couldn’t hide his confusion. “Dad, what do you mean ‘basically set’ for my brother?”
Charlie just gave him a noncommittal look. “You’ll know soon enough.”
Under the table, Jon’s hand slowly clenched into a fist. When he looked up, he met Richie’s eyes. The two brothers stared at each other, both lost in their own thoughts, and neither said anything more.
Just then, George walked in, holding the hand of a young boy.
It was time.
The banquet was officially starting.
Everyone turned their attention to the front of the room, where George and the child stood. For many of the guests, it was their first time seeing Ben. They couldn’t help but whisper about how good-looking he was, his features unmistakably Duncan.
George stood tall, one hand on his cane, the other holding Ben’s small fingers. He beamed at the crowd, eyes twinkling as he glanced around the room.
He cleared his throat and spoke up. “Welcome, everyone. All of you here have ties with the Duncan family, so I’m sure you know why I invited you today. First, I’d like to thank you for being here…”
Meanwhile, in the back lounge, Joan had her ear pressed right up to the wall. The main hall was only a few steps away, and George’s voice carried through loud and clear.
Her heart was pounding so hard she could barely breathe. Her fingers trembled with excitement.
She’d waited so long for this moment.
Finally, Ben could be welcomed into the Duncan family for real.

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
