Rebecca felt a little lost. She thought that after talking things through with her mom, maybe she’d finally get it. But her mother’s attitude stayed cold and stubborn.
“Why, though?” Rebecca rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. “What’s wrong with him? Is it his family, the way he looks, his job, or what? Which part don’t you like?”
Samantha let out a sigh. “It’s exactly because he checks every box that I can’t help worrying.”
“His family is way above ours. If you marry him, I’m scared you’ll end up getting the short end of the stick. I’ve heard how rich people work. They have whole teams of lawyers, and, before you know it, you’re signing stacks of prenups. If you get divorced, you get nothing. If there are kids, you won’t get them either.”
Rebecca could only roll her eyes. “We’re not even married yet and you’re already thinking about divorce settlements? Besides, you do realize this could happen with any guy, right? Even if I marry some regular guy, who says there won’t be problems? If I have to gamble, I’d rather choose someone I actually love.”
Samantha’s face turned stormy. “I don’t see how he’s any better than Bruce. Didn’t he have some old flame too? Sure, she’s in jail now, but who knows what he thinks about at night. Now, Aaron, that kid is pure as they come, never even dated anyone. If you picked him, you wouldn’t have to worry about any of this.”
“Mom, really?” Rebecca laughed, half exasperated, half amused. “I didn’t realize you were all about first loves and clean slates.”
“Besides, your daughter isn’t exactly a blank page either. What if Aaron cares about my past?”
Samantha sputtered, lost for words. “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
Rebecca looped her arm through her mom’s and gave her best puppy-dog eyes. “Of course not. I just… really like him. Can’t you at least try, for me?”
Samantha frowned, but she didn’t argue anymore. Her tone had softened, just a bit.
Rebecca blinked at her, hopeful. She decided to push her luck. “How about this? I’ll have him come over next week. Maybe once you meet him, you’ll see he’s not so bad.”

The ending seems abrupt. Is it like a cliffhanger? I was expecting more. A lot of questions are unanswered....
Why is the story tagged as complete when I think the chapters are incomplete and it hasn’t ended yet?...
Can't wait for the next update! 😍...
Honestly, Rebecca's mother needs to be called out for pettiness. At the same time, Rebecca needs to explain her work situation to her mother....
