Betrayed and Dumped She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 544

“I guess someone paid off that student.”

They kept watching, but the screen was just a blur of shadows. Nothing showed up.

Stephen's face tightened. “What’s going on?”

The guy from security scratched his head, looking apologetic. “That camera broke last year.”

Stephen’s jaw clenched. “Why didn’t anyone fix it?”

“No one goes down that path much, and, well, we didn't have the budget, so…”

Stephen just stared, breathing hard. He knew yelling at the guard wouldn’t help, but the frustration was eating him up and he had nowhere to put it.

Dr. Palmer broke in. “Let’s get that student in here and ask him.”

It didn’t take long for Dr. Palmer to pull up the student’s info from the school system.

The guy didn’t even try to hide anything. He admitted it right away. “Yeah, I passed her the message. Some man came up to me, said he was her boyfriend. He’d messed up and she was mad at him, so they weren’t talking. He wanted to make up and asked me for help.”

He didn’t seem to realize how serious this was. His tone was almost defensive. “He looked rich, handsome too. I figured I was just helping out. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Stephen’s fists tightened, but he didn’t have time to argue. He forced himself to focus. “What did this guy look like?”

The student thought for a second. “He was really good-looking, you know, seemed like one of those rich kids. Oh, and he was driving the latest Maybach, top of the line.”

The words hit Stephen with the force of a lightning strike. He froze, his mind blank for a few seconds, and all the color drained from his face.

Could it be... Bruce?

He stumbled back, disbelief and dread crawling up his spine.

If Bruce really took Rebecca, what was he planning? What would he do?

A thousand horrible scenarios flashed through Stephen's mind. Regret crashed into him. He should have seen this coming. How could he have been so slow? An hour had already passed before he even started asking questions.

Stephen scanned the pages, his eyes sharp and cold. The last place the Maybach was seen was the marina.

He rushed out to the docks, but it was useless. There was no car, no sign of anyone.

Had Bruce already gotten on a boat? He turned to the dock manager. “When did the last ship leave?”

The manager checked his log. “About an hour ago.”

“What do you know about that ship?” Stephen’s voice was icy.

“It’s a foreign cruise ship. We don’t really know who owns it.”

Stephen’s hands were shaking, veins standing out on the backs of them. His whole presence was so intense that nobody dared step near him.

That’s exactly how Cindy and Jon found him when they arrived. Both of them stopped short, shocked.

They’d never seen Stephen like this before. He could handle anything and always kept his cool. Even when he took over the company and the old board members tried to push him around because of his age, the most he ever did was frown or press his lips together. He never let anyone see him rattled.
