Betrayed and Dumped: She Rose Stronger Than Ever novel Chapter 88

On the way there, Sonja glanced at Lottie, worry written all over her face.

“What you said to Ms. Harper just now was kind of harsh. Do you think she’s mad at you?”

Lottie just waved it off. “Don’t worry. If she’s mad, it’ll last three days, tops.”

“You sound pretty sure about that.”

“Of course I am. We’ve known each other since we were kids. No one knows her temper better than I do.”

Sonja relaxed. “Okay, if you say so.”

Tonight, Sonja was bringing Lottie along to meet a client. The client turned out to be Scott, the manager at Meridian Tech and also Sonja’s friend from college.

The bidding for the Meridian Tech project was coming up soon. Scott had promised again and again that everything would go smoothly, but Sonja couldn’t quite shake her nerves.

When they got to the private dining room, Scott was already waiting. As soon as Sonja walked in, he jumped up, grinning so wide it looked like his face might split open. “Hey, Sonja, good to see you.”

But the second he spotted Lottie behind her, his smile faded and he looked almost disappointed. He’d obviously been hoping Sonja had invited him out on his own.

With Lottie there, Scott tried to keep his feelings in check. He sat up straighter and acted way more reserved than usual. Sonja caught the quick change in his expression but just raised her eyebrows like she hadn’t noticed a thing. She pulled Lottie over and motioned for her to sit right next to Scott.

“This is my assistant, and also my best friend, Lottie,” Sonja said, introducing them. “Lottie, meet Scott, my old friend from college.”

Scott reached out his hand. “Nice to meet you.”

Lottie smiled politely. “Hi.”

Scott got it immediately. The box had health supplements inside. And this gift wasn’t about the bidding process, just a gesture between old friends. As long as she kept quiet, no one at work would ever find out.

Scott finally smiled and accepted the gift. He knew exactly what it meant.

“Sonja, don’t worry. I’ll keep my word,” Scott said, giving her a look that was a little too intense.

Sonja lifted her glass. “Thank you, Scott. Here’s to you.”

Lottie watched the whole thing in amazement. She couldn’t believe how Sonja had handled it—just a few words, and the whole problem was solved.

Sonja only had a single drink, then excused herself to deal with a work call. Before leaving, she leaned in close to Lottie and whispered, “Stay on good terms with Scott. I’ll let you handle the next phases of the contract, and you’ll get all the sales commission.”

Lottie’s eyes went wide with excitement. She nodded so hard she felt like her head might fall off. If she managed to close those deals, the commissions would be a serious windfall.
